Does the same beer put into a different barrel warrant a separate entry on beeradvocate?

Yes but then you would not be able to search that barrel. I think if a beer is out in different barrels make a different entry.

I also think any beer that is a popular beer for aging should get a Separate entry, WWS 2019, WWS 2016 etc

    Enjoy

It takes an extra step, but isn't difficult. A good reviewer makes note of the vintage and/or bourbon barrel. You use the BA search to go to the beer then your browser's “find on page” for the specific bottle you're interested in.
I agree that people should be able to make multiple reviews if they are reviewing a different year or batch, but having a separate database listing for every single variation and vintage is just too messy.

Looking at Deschutes The Abyss. The noting of the barrel in the name, to me, sets the standard for how this should be handled. Shrugs.

    fwiw:
The barrel creates the characteristics of the beer.

If they used Malort for example, you’d probably say, “why does this beer suck so bad,” it’s the barrel.

I think same-base beers aged in different barrels should be listed separately. Barrel aged variants are defined and judged largely by their barrel character. Aging the same base beer in different barrels lends entirely new tasting notes and a different experience on the whole.
