I am shocked, shocked I tell you that "journalists" can't interpret statistical information.

And how many Bud Lite/Coors Light sales are happening because they happen to be some of the few things available on tap at the local watering hole, sports complex, or buddy's house?
What percentage is being forced to drink these due to lack of choice? Sounds like communism!

One thing left out of the story ... the theory that people dont like to drink their father's beer. Some have questioned it, but it seems to have validity. We are a generation past the time when Bud Light took over from Bud.

Who knows, in 30 years there might be a backlash against IPA.

Around here those days seem to be ending. The most divey bar in my area now has Keegan Ales Hurricane Kitty on tap. Wasn't too long ago the choice was BMC regular or lite. Not even Guinness.

Communism is retreating everywhere, even in bars.

This really just indicates seasonal variation in sales. The question is whether a season extension would affect the annual sales volumes. Note that the beer sales trend is asymmetrical, which I think points more to the "perceived" temperature changes (especially in early spring). Obviously the trend would be entirely different for a modern year, but I still find it hard to believe that "poor weather" would be detrimental enough to cause a steady decline in beer sales over the past few years. It seems more intuitive to assume something else is going on.

I don't know about "the last few years", but this year has seen a huge drop-off in spring sales. Crafts were unaffected.

It is quite simple really. When the big three continue to produce quantity over quality in compettition with one another, it is only a matter of time until some little guys get together and produce quality over quantity. Thus slowly but surely taking market share from the very guys who attempt to monopolize the market.

on another note. My girlfriend is the beer/wine buyer at a Whole Foods. Their craft beers sales continue to increase while the big 3 continue to decline. Their craft beers sales are so high, that she wants to take down some wine space and put up more craft beer.

too bad she can't cut into the big 3's space.

Just a thought (or brain fart) here, but IF their (BMC) sales keep declining, wouldn't retailers have the argument and then, ability, to cut into their shelf space? Just askin' . . .

Retailers can cut into whatever space they want as far as I know. No law against reducing BMC cooler space. No argument needed.
