I picked up a 6-pack of SN Bigfoot from the grocery store last week, and yes it was kept to cold. I tried one or two cold and it was good, but couldn't quite get all the flavors. I stored the rest in the cellar and had them a week later. DAMN is the only word for the flavors I pick up now as opposed to last week. Has this happened to you with any other beer?

A lot of beers open up if you give them time to go from cold to cellar/room temps.

sure ive bought brews that were way too cold, just let them sit out if you want it as soon as you get home or store them warm in the cellar or let them acclimate to your small fridge

Yeah not a big deal when you buy them from the store. I just hate when they do this at the bar. I usually get a Hop Devil at a local place I frequent, and they serve the thing ice cold, like uncomfortable to the touch cold. I have to ask for them not to serve it in a frosted glass. I still end up having to let it sit and warm it up with my hands just to get any kind of aroma or flavor out of it.

I've noticed that many bars, even ones that specialize in craft beer, tend to serve stouts on tap colder than they probably should IMO.

Going back to Hobgoblin (again). When I had my first one, it was ice cold, and it wasn't bad. But it improved significantly as it sat out and warmed in my glass, and was allowed to breathe.

Yes. My beer has been served too cold. I let it warm. It was better.

    Cheers!

Have you ever tried to pour a fully carbed beer off a warm keg?

    Major foam territory...

What a ridiculous topic. Keeping beer cold has nothing to do with your ability to drink it at the appropriate temperature.

Whenever I try to drink beer inside my igloo in Nunavut Alaska I run into this problem, but I just let the beer warm for a few minutes sitting next to the whale oil lantern to bring the beer up to an enjoyable temperature.

The only time I prefer it that way is when the fancy temp indicator under the mountains on the label tell me it's cold enough so as to mask the terrible flavor of canned water.

It takes your beer a week to warm up 10 degrees?

I haven't, so I guess I was unaware that was an issue. Makes sense though...

Yea, our Mellow Mushroom is notorious for serving there beer ice cold, as well as all there beer in cold glasses. Had a Green Man IPA last night that had ice floating on top of it, quite sad...

Not ridicoloius if you're talking a pub/bar. Ice cold cask is a growing problem over here as discussed previously in the UK & Ireland forum. Numbs the gums and teeth and fecks up the palate for sure.

Yes, I agree on the serving temp, have found in many cases that I've had to wait for a beer to warm to the appropriate temperature
