My roommate and I made a great (we think anyway) session IPA, we are thinking of making another one to enter into a contest in august.

The malts were used crystal and carapils and the hops we used were Columbus and Amarillo, Amarillo we loved and want to use again for sure.

Any tips for dry hopping or other hops anyone has used, or anything that sounds awesome with a session IPA, for the most part these styles seem pretty basic we want to make it a little more crazy.

Thanks for any tips and ideas
    Cheers!

It would help if you could describe your vision for the beer. Or IOW, define crazy.

Use a flavorful base grain/extract to avoid "hopwater"...or just make a regular "crazy" IPA

What yeast did you use the first time around? What trying to ferment it w/ Brett Trois?

What was your base malt the first time you brewed it?

FWIW, I recently brewed a session IPA/APA that I thought came out pretty nice and everyone seems to like.

Maris Otter, about 10% Oats and a touch of C40.
    Mashed high for body.
FWH to about 25ibu then nothing until two equal additions of Citra/Mosaic/Cascade at FO and 170f to bring up to final ibu of about 50-60.
London ESB yeast. Finished about 4.75%
Dry hopped with Citra and Mosaic.

Looks like a WW II Best Bitter. It's the oats.

Just to be clear, those are specialty malts, not base malts. Base malts will convert themselves, and must be mashed. So Pilsner, 2-row brewers malt, pale ale malt, Vienna, Munich, etc. are base malts.

    You must be doing extract?
