tl;sr I went to Great Wolf Lodge. Tangent: Cool place when I saw 1) no lines, and 2) a sign at the entrance of the indoor waterpark that read, "Beer and wine only beyond this point." On the way home, hit Oly, and found that Three Magnets was only three blocks away from my wife's targeted ramen shop. "Rain Rain Rain is a triple IPA, and it's in bombers for only $9.99? Okay!" Got home, drank it tonight. WTF? This thing drank like 7%, which I can confirm given it warmed up in the two-hour car ride home (Trafficoma aroma), then it sat in the baby fridge for two hours only. Hoppy sure, but guava and mango UP THE FACE. Stonefruit? WTF is stonefruit? Sure! Stonefruit in there too, probably. Bottome ligne: This did not drink like its 12.5% ABV, whatsoever. This made me think of what other beers come close to having such amazingly hidden ABV despite dangerous drinkability. What was the Fremont/Bartell's beer a couple years back? Triple Trifecta? That beer had a high-yet-hidden ABV, but Rain Rain Rain might take its cake for me. How about you?

tl;dr What beers can you reference and describe for their amazing drinkability despite unreasonably high ABV?

P.S. I wrote this while recovering from said Rain Rain Rain via a three-year oude Oude Geuze Boon. It's working. Maybe?

P.P.S. "tl;sr" denotes "too long, still read."

P.P.P.S. I usually don't start threads; I just end them (i.e. my lame comments). Thank you for your patience.

Speaking of Three Magnets: Tonight I'm drinking Kratovo, their Russian Imperial Stout, and there is nothing sessionable about it. At all. Tasty beer, tho.

So, while you're high on the 'truth serum,' @66jzmstr, will you please explain the Ratzinger avatar and the text you (presumably) crafted to superimpose it? I must admit, I have always found it an amusing curiosity. The satire, if that's indeed what it is, eludes me...

Pray tell, and I'll share my sekret "session IIIPAs and barley-wines," not that I think they'd do you any good after a post like this.

Three Magnet's Bigger And Juicer is amazing and, imo, better than Rain Rain Rain.

If anyone could cast "Magic Missile" on this earth, it was God's Rottweiler. Personally, can't stand the guy for reasons that would probably get this thread whacked for political/religial reasons (to the extent that I'm not even gonna Google to learn if he's still alive), but having done a few D&D sessions in my youth, long nights of "Dragon Warrior"ing on NES three decades ago, overlapping with my reluctant yet ever-present Catholic upbringing, it just struck a chord (Em9).

Not to mention magic missiles kick ass.

I entirely agree. But don't tell that to OP. That good fellow already found Rain^3 plenty amazing and drinkable enough.

Let's turn our focus, instead, to keeping him alive...

It is one of my favorite avatars on this site. A grown man in a costume, reinterpreted as a LARPer. Well, why not? It makes me chuckle every time I see it. Just like GRAPE LOTION.

Beer: Kratovo is a bit hoppier than I like, but the roast and dark fruit character is quite nice, especially if you let it warm up a bit. Thanks for the heads up on this one, @EdwardAbbey .

Strong candidate for OP of '17 right here. Helluva post to wake up to.

As I had a couple last night, i'll nominate Wanders 3 Ton Barleywine as my "Session" Barleywine. Very easy drinking.

The authorities usually don't let me imbibe outside of the house, but on the rare occasions they do, I'm down! I live in the Kenmore/Kirkland area but have been known to make the trip to Chuck's on 85th every once in a while. Respond here or message me so I know your neighborhood, and I'll let you know next time I pass through!

Chucks 85th is in my stomping ground. So, if you wish, feel free to cast me a 'magic message' the next time you're in the area. I'll bring the baba ganoush.

I'm just north of you, actually. The Hop And Hound is a regular, though I tend to go into Seattle pretty frequently. Chucks 85th is a regular stop for me.

Huh. I thought I was the only one at the north end of the lake. Kenmore here, too. Also a Hop and Hound regular.

Three Magnets is crushing it these days. Which is all the more impressive given that it is my understanding they recently (well, 6 months ago) lost their head brewmaster.

Just recently got some Rain^3; can't wait to try it.

    Wait...this is a thing?

    This is a thing!!!11one!

More specifically, this is a thing that I need in my life. I hope they brew this again.

As far as this thread topic goes, can I nominate CinnaBBomb? That stuff is sooo easy to put away.

Actually, now that I think about it, Rusty Nail might've been even easier. That stuff was liquid crack.

Cheers, @NathanA ! Spring Elixir was it, and damn was it awesome. I hope they bring that one back sooner than later.

Also, it sounds like there are quite a few of us toward the north end of the lake and/or frequenters of Chuck's 85th. We'll have to get together for a round or three. I don't have any trips lined up in the next few days, but I'll send magic messages when I do! Cheers!
