Long story short - I'll be in the Asheville area for a few rounds of golf next weekend and am looking for the perfect quaffable for the course. A little more background - Last time I played with my brother he was drinking english barleywines on the course, by hole 7 his slice had been activated for the rest of the day, he had 3 dogs on the turn, and by hole 15 he was berating the grounds keeping crew for the state of the sand traps... So the goal is to get him going on the low ABV stuff, and give him enough flavor that he stays the course, the fresher the better! I'll be driving from Cincinnati, and I have a reliable mule driving from Chattanooga, so any brewery tips somewhat on the way would be much appreciated. If not that, guess just looking where I should be stopping in Asheville and anything I should be keeping my eye out for. Thanks all!
If you're taking 75 to 40 to get to Asheville, I recommend Albright Grove here in Knoxville. They've got an excellent selection of lower (6% and under) ABV beers currently available. You can pick them up directly from the brewery or at McScrooges which is just of the highway. From Knoxville, Asheville is a little less than 2 hrs away so all the beers will still be relatively cool. https://www.albrightgrovebrewing.com/menu I know Asheville has a ton of options too...but haven't been over recently to suggest anything particular.
Man I want to play golf with you guys! And I've got a fat hook so maybe it will balance out your brother's slice. If you end up looking for your low ABV IPAs in Asheville, I've recently been enjoying the Foundy Sesh over at Wedge. Big flavor for a 4.8%. https://www.wedgebrewing.com/
Thanks guys, I think we'll try both of those! I'm not seeing any food at Albright, anywhere close I should send my buddy for a good sandwich for his troubles? Four-more-beers if we're down a man come tee time we'll look for you at Wedge, hopefully with 2-3 beers in front of you.
You boys playing at the Asheville muni? Honestly not a bad course if you're more focused on your sessions than your golf - although sounds like your brother might not be able to handle the state of the sand traps. If you want something special head up to Omni Grove or Reems Creek. And you sure will find me at the Wedge with 2-3 beers in front of me and 2-3 in my gut.
I think my bro has us at Remus, but not positive. Honestly maybe it sounds like muni is more our style, especially if the ranger at Remus gives us the boot. If we go muni route, we'll scoop you up at Wedge for sure! Seems like the kind of place you might be able to get away with a 5some.
