Off-topic, but yeah, SF burritos are a joke. SD burritos for life!

Meh. El Farolito is popular with the hipster crowd, and I agree their burritos are big. But they're not tasty.

La Taqueria as @JayORear mentioned is tons better. Better flavors, and no rice. (Although I do not mind rice in my burritos.)

My favorite, though is actually out in South San Francisco... a little mexican market called La Tapatia. I particularly like their carnitas, which they also sell by the lb. Or 5 lb, if you so desire.

But french fries in a burrito?

...I mean, I guess. Took me a while to warm up to the hazy IPA trend too.

    Back to beerweek!

Seconded. Grew up in SD, have lived in the Bay Area for 13+ years now. The burritos and overall Mexi food scene here is vastly inferior to SD.

Was back in SD a few months ago and had a Cali Burrito from a spot in La Jolla. It was so amazing.

SF food > SD food. You moved here from SD and have lived here for over 13 years for I'm assuming good reasons.

Anyways, yes, back to SFBW. Anyone attending the Rare Barrel event at CM tonight? Let me know and I'll bring dinner. Humphrey Slocombe is providing dessert.

This assertion is true overall though one notable exception is Mexican food.

To keep this beer-oriented, the Bay Area surpasses SD in its ability to produce haze juice IPAs. Moonraker, Cellarmaker, and Alvarado St be killin it!

Darn! I am going, but I'm headed there right when they open. (I prefer fewer crowds.) Would be cool to meet up someday. You going to be there for Thursday's crazy release?

Yep, I'll be there. Probably getting in line around one. I'll holla "thuey!" once I'm in the taproom.

I just had Modern Times Dinosaur World at Craftyfox and it was a damn good hazy brew.
I also had Moonraker Alpha Tide and it was actually clear.

Moonraker does make West Coast IPAs too, but they're probably most famous for their NE style stuff. I don't know if any SF bars are carrying their haze at the moment, but after visiting them last month, they're now my 2nd favorite brewery (after Cellarmaker, of course!).

I find that La Taqueria is HIGHLY overrated. My general thinking is that the burritos get better as you move away from the Bay Area and closer to the central Valley.

Agreed. Don't sleep on Moonraker's West Coast IPA offerings.

They got the Gold Medal at the Bistro IPA competition this past weekend to kick off SF Beer Week. Beat out some brewery out of Santa Rosa for 1st. Some foreign river brewery or something??

That's awesome! Galaxy is my favorite hop, so I was looking forward to that. I'll see if I can sneak my way there today...

    Thanks for the tip!

Best way to order burritos in the bay are with no rice, no beans and add guacamole. The person serving you will often look at you like you're crazy, but they're much better that way.

SF has SD beat with non fish tacos. Redwood City is the place to go for good tacos. I've been much happier with the Mexican food up here when I stopped hoping for a great burrito and went elsewhere.

    Never settle for mediocre burritos.
