So I have a friend in SF who will be headed to Colorado next week and has offered to bring me some beer. She knows little to nothing about beer and just told me she'd bring whatever I ask for. I was wondering if anyone here frequents City Beer enough that they might have some good suggestions for me. I'm looking more for bottles versus growler fills and lean towards sours/saisons/fruited beers and fresh IPA's. The breweries that come to mind are Rare Barrel, SARA, Kern River, Modern Times & Alpine. But I would love any input on other breweries and specific bottles. Thanks in advance for the help.
You probably won't find any of those there unfortunately. MT just really is starting distro up there, no distro for SARA or TRB and I don't think Alpine, or Kern River make it up there.
The only brewery from your list you might find at city beer is modern times 4 packs .as for the other breweries you mentioned you will not find on shelves
Adding to what I said earlier, they should have some Russian River, Lost Abbey (shelf stuff) and other things like Knee Deep & Almanac.
Looks like I was dreaming big. Any suggestions on similar stuff that will be on shelfs and has been released recently?
Look above, our messages crossed. You may find the Kern River/Knee Deep collab which is great. A new batch should be hitting this week.
Yeah, "Deep River" is great. It had some carb issues in batch 1 (2 months ago), but the flavor was excellent. Hopefully they remedy the carb issue in batch 2.
Just make sure your friend is checking those dates if you go for Knee Deep. Obviously anything from City Beer (or the recent Deep River batch) should be good but other beer stores around here are about to collapse under the weight of 1yr old simtra, hop shortage and hoparillo sitting on the shelves. Pity, it's lovely stuff when it's fresh....
Thanks for the heads up @Coldstorage I might just take a pass, it seems like it's more trouble than it's worth and we've got plenty of great IPA's in CO right now.
