Anything going on? My wife has business meetings Friday evening and most of the day Saturday, I'll be tooling around the area by myself, probably without a car. So I was wondering if there are any tastings, fests, etc... that could be a good way to occupy my time. One other question, any reliable places to grab a bottle from Almanac? It looks like I'll be staying around Sunset in SF. Thanks.
Whole Foods at Haight and Stanyan is a decent hook-up for Almanac, as can be Handy Deli and Liquid Experience. Sunset's a pretty grim bar scene, however.
Might stay with a friend in Noe Valley instead. Now I'm leaning that way... but my wife can drop me off anywhere before she heads to her meeting.
Healthy Spirits for bottles and Toronado for beers is a good combo. They are within blocks of each other.
Don't get me wrong -- I live in the Inner Sunset and love my neighborhood, but it's a bit of a hike to get anywhere that matches the selection in my basement.
Thanks, I not really looking for tips about where to have a beer. I know about and have been to the main places plenty of times. (City Beer, Magnolia, Toronado, etc... etc...) I was mainly inquiring about events and good places to get bottles of Almanac.
I haven't been to that neighborhood in years. There is a place to stay a friend recommended checking out down in the area and that's why I was thinking of staying there.
It probably hasn't changed much, other than a few new restaurants, which is a big part of its charm, I suppose.
I think the problem with labor day weekend for events is that literally everyone is going to be down in SD for DDG. I know I'd offer to arrange a tasting at Beer Rev that weekend, but I won't be here...
If you are going to be staying or visiting Noe Valley, the Whole Foods on 24th Street has Almanac bottles. I saw some four packs and singles there yesterday. The Pi Bar suggestion Commanche made is a good one and I like Rosamunde Sausage on Mission Street for their Happy Hour prices ($1 off from 4-6:00 p.m., Blind Pig and others on tap). Cheers!
