So I just finished secondary on my American wheat, my plan was to turn it into a shandy by adding lemonade.i saw a thread a while back about a shandy that used lemonade powder mix. My question is this should I use traditions liquid lemonade or a lemonade powder mix?

    Are you bottling this?

I'd just mix when you want to drink it, means you can control how much of each you want

Plus you can change your mixer, from sprite to schweppes to 7up etc.

Yes I intend to bottle this I don't keg quite yet waiting for the funds to start. And I thought about doing my mixing after however I've done that before and I don't find it as satisfying. Plus I like to hand things out to friends and i would love to give out a shandy like beer. Any other advice?

Yes, be careful when adding sugar (or lemonade mix) to any beer that hasn't been pasteurized or you will end up with bottle grenades. Use either powdered or liquid, but make sure it's artificially sweetened and does not contain sugar. Only other option I can think of is to use some potassium sorbate, etc., to prevent the yeast present from fermenting any sugar.

Edit: One other option, add the mix and let it ferment again for a couple weeks before bottling (with FG readings)

Wow thanks! Do you think adding to secondary would provide a lemonade flavor? Or would the yeast ferment it and give it an off flavor? Also for adding to pasteurized beer are you talking about adding it after it is carbonated?
