You pull a special beer from your cellar, crack it, and a beer genie bursts forth and says he’ll make it so you can share a few pints at the place of your choosing with your favorite brewer and/or beer-related person. Who do you pick, where do you go, what do you drink, and why?

For me: Dan and Deb Carey from New Glarus, either in NG’s amazing beer garden in the fall, or at The Olympic Tavern in Rockford, Illinois. We drink NG’s Staghorn, Two Women, Dancing Man Wheat, Spiced Ale, and Wisconsin Belgian Red because I have such fond memories of trips to the brewery with family and friends and because New Glarus was one of my first forays into craft beer.

Even if the beer sucked (which it doesn't), you'd still have a shit load of fun hanging out with Shane. Just be careful not to give him your phone number or you'll get random text messages and pictures of food made with his beer.

Let's see -- shared beer and conversation with Kirby Nelson, Randy Sprecher, the Klisch brothers (numerous times), Dan Carey, Larry Bell, Seamus O'Hara, Fred Eckhardt, Bill Siebel, and Greg Hall -- not to mention various pub brewers in the area... all without the help of a genie. Guess that's doin' okay.

My second choice was Garrett Oliver - Hopleaf in Chicago - Tripel Karmeliet, DuPont, Fantome, St. Bernardus - Oliver has, without doubt, heavily influenced by thoughts on beer, brewing, beer and food, and more. Dude is something of a beer spirit guide to me.

Wow. Hey, wait, maybe you ARE the genie in my hypothetical...

...seriously though, those must have been some great convos.

I have heard stories of brew club meetings with the great VT brewers sharing their beers around a campfire. Now that would be heaven even if none of them were famous (at least in our circle) yet.

Best ones are always with Kirby Nelson and the Klisch brothers -- very down-to-earth people. The "evening with O'Hara's" at a local tavern was outstanding too -- what a fun person to discuss beer and brewing with.

Come to think of it, it's difficult to pick a favorite of all those encounters -- all unique and memorable in their own ways.

Right? I was fortunate enough to interview him for work a few months back, which was awesome (a super kind, super cool guy), but sharing some beers outside of a work environment would be a whole other level, you know?

I'd like to have a few beers with Shaun Hill at his brewery. I've heard he's a bit "standoffish" but I'd like to see for myself. He's probably a really nice guy.

Shaun, if you check out Beer Advocate (which I doubt), I'll be making my first ever trip to Vermont in late March. If Sean Lawson can also join us that would be great.

I would pull a bunch of quality beers that are readily available off the shelf and drink them with Rick Lovett (brewmaster of Indian Wells). I would then say, "Well?"
