I have found that as I improve in creating my own beers that the desire to share it with friends and family and just in general having others taste it is increasing as well. Some batches do so well that by the time it is gone I realize that I barely had the opportunity to enjoy very much of it myself. My question is this: how much of your own brew do you share and how much do you keep for yourself?

Now that my wife is pregnant, I get to drink a lot more. However, when she has her friends over I offer it. The last time I did this, I lost 18 bottles in 2hrs.

So, I guess it depends. I'll share, but I sure lament the loss.

I used to share a lot of my home brews.. But that's because I lived in a town with a lot of beer drinking buddies who were always over.. Now I've moved and kicking a keg seems to take quite a bit longer... I love sharing my beer but most the time I'm drinking most of it.

I probably share 50% of mine.

I share some, but between my brother and me we probably drink 90% of it ourselves (with me consuming more of it than him).

Sometimes I will give someone some beer for helping with the brewing or bottling process, but I have to get value for my beer! No gawkers, just people who actually do the tasks needed to brew or bottle (like cleaning pots or buckets). Bottling is much easier with two people, so I don't mind sharing some if I can find a helper (on the days when my bro ain't around or we just can't mesh schedules).

I also like to always take a bomber or two of any new batch to band practice. We split it up and enjoy it on a break. None of us drink much when practicing, but a bomber split three ways is a nice relaxer.

If I know someone who is into homebrew who I'm also hanging around with, they will most likely get some of my beers.

I like I sharing my beer and do my best to welcome honest feedback on it from the people who try it. I do not know about you guys, but I find that it can be difficult for me to judge me own beer at times. It seems like I am often times seeking out the imperfections in hopes of always improving the next batch.

I rarely have the opportunity to share. Since I started kegging, most of my homebrew has been consumed in the home. Beer is not my wife's favorite beverage. When here mom and step-dad visited, they bought Busch Light, which also happens to be what my neighbor likes to drink. Sometimes I have bottled part of a batch to share with him. >95% of the beer I make gets consumed by me.

I give away/share more of my beer than I drink myself. I find the idea of anyone thinking their homebrew is somehow so precious that they need to apply a lot of thought to its distribution hilarious. Not aimed at OP. This question comes up from time to time in slightly different forms.

I probably give away more homebrew than I consume. Between friends coming over, homebrew club events/meetings, and parties I attend a keg usually doesn't last long. Instead of bring a keg or bottling from the tap, I usually fill a clean 1 liter soda bottle and bring it with me to an event to share. Some carbonation is lost, but the beer doesn't go flat and if I leave the bottle behind it's no big deal.

I end up giving away at least half my beer, whether it's to my roommates/friends or just giving them out to people I respect to get their opinion (I'm doing this a lot more often now since I actually want to become a brewer!) Haven't entered any contests and don't particularly want to, but it's probably a good next step.

I'd happily give almost all of it away if I could. Between the beer I make and the beer I buy, I have way too much beer to realistically consume myself. Having people over that enjoy my homebrew is a treat, because I can clean most of it out in a short period of time.

I drink about 25% of the beer I make. Yeah, it's pretty bad. Give away most of the rest. Gotta keep things moving; there's more beer to be made.

I give away more than 1/2 of what I make, and I still had to slow down production this year to avoid over-crowding of the basement.

I give away around 6 bottles per 5 gallon batch. My girlfriend doesn't drink and I only have a handfull of friends that I see regularly who are in to homebrewing or craft beer. Out of my family I only have one brother who enjoys craft beer but he lives out of town so I set aside two from each batch until we see each other. I would give out more but don't have many opportunities to.

I share most of it. Especially when it doesn't turn out great.

Sharing allows me to brew more, which allows me try more recipes, styles, and techniques. It is sad when a great keg goes to fast, but that just goes with the territory.

You guys must not make very good beer if you're giving it all away.

    Sorry, couldn't help myself.

I only bottle as I tend to make beers I feel benefit from bottle conditioning and cellaring. I prefer larger bottles for most of batches, but usually do a 6er of small bottles to give to friends.

I drink 80% of what I brew. The rest goes to the wife or friends.
Problem is I'm too self-conscious to have too many people try it for fear they will think it tastes unremarkable. And then I will question my self-worth as a homebrewer.

^ that was not meant to be completely serious, fyi ^

I share most of what I brew. All of my homebrew is free for friends/family to drink. Some like certain styles, and some don't.

I brew some beers that I personally don't care to drink much of, but my family and neighbors/co-workers drink it up so fast, I can't keep it on tap long enough.

    So I'd say.. 60 percent I drink, 40 others.

I probably drink, or try to drink, about 1/2 - 2/3 of my output. Sometimes I fail. My standing order is that anyone who happens by is welcome to whatever is on tap, but ask before opening a bottle. A few people get a growler of every batch or 2. Right now, all my kegs have beer in them and I'm trying to get a few empty but the occasional drought has happened too - I tend to brew up a storm and then make nothing for awhile. I actually drain poured a keg that was kinda blah last month - nothing technically wrong but it just didn't excite anyone (did use a little of it for cooking). I do make special batches for my wife that no one else touches. And there is the occasional batch that is 'not for company', as they say here (i.e. we want it all).
