Large size. And it is going in my back room / office.

Someone gave me an older fridge (white, rounded corners... .looked like it came out of a 60s sitcom), and I never used it. Gave it to a coworker. He reminds me daily that it is the best fridge he ever owned and uses it as his garage fridge. Probably uses more electricity than the superdome, but it was a very cool appliance.

Now you need to work on a beer cellar since you got phase one complete. Just tell her the benefits of a proper aging space etc.
    Cheers

For me, that's too much work. And my wife calls me anal. :nerd: But I do fully agree with the idea of keeping track of beer so it doesn't get too old. I just discovered 2 bottle of Anderson Valley Winter Solstice from last winter. They were still drinkable, but definitely past their prime. Personally, I would just store the beer chronologically by shelf. Put a sheet of paper on each shelf, stating the date ranges of when beer was bought. Then drink from the oldest shelf.

    FULLY agreed.

Same basic idea and a bit less time. Now extend that method to a cellar with 4 or 5 cases filled with one or two bottles of each beer and all having different shelf lives... :sunglasses:

As long as you're willing to compromise and give her extra space for her shit (shoes, clothes....tarot cards...whatever she is into) then it's a win-win for everyone involved. I'd totally do this if my tiny apartment had the space.

It works for you and I like it. I'm a collector of old currency, Native American artifacts that I find, rocks, minerals, ancient family missives, cool old bottles that I find, feathers, old tools, books, beer accouterments, and damned near everything else. I have these things easily at hand, and my grandchildren and children love them. "She" is less than enthusiastic, but after 36 years Martha is coming around! I also have some cool beers aging always, but I never forget them, or their story.

That makes sense. I keep a spreadsheet for my cellar beers as well, but for my everyday beers negative. Maybe I just don’t buy enough or drink too much. I rarely have more than 3 - 4 different beers in my beer fridge.

I keep just in time inventory and have no need for a spreadsheet, other than for the cellar.

I supposed however if I had my own beer fridge opposed to the small allocation of family fridge my wife gives me, I might in fact move away from JIT and require a spreadsheet.

My girlfriend told me to make a spreadsheet hoping it would make me realize I had so much beer and that I had forgotten I even had a lot of it. Her hope was that realization would slow down buying more beer. I was able to create 95% of the 200+ bottle spreadsheet from memory at work before I even got home so her plan of teaching me a lesson didn't really work. The spreadsheet hasn't been updated since, but I will admit I do forget about having bottles occasionally. The bigger problem is swearing I had more of something when I can't find it.

If I were to do a beer spreadsheet I would put the spreadsheet on my phone. My phone is usually handy (in my pocket typically) and I don't lose it. Phones can do simple spreadsheets just fine, and there are free spreadsheet apps.

Personally I don't keep enough beer in my cellar to necessitate beer tracking aids. I reduced my cellar stash a few years ago, because to my tastes aging brought too little benefit and sometimes made them worse.... YRMV. I was definitely losing track of cellared beers previously, but now my cellar consists of maybe 12-20 large bottles of beers at any given time, which is small enough to track in my head, or glance at if I need a reminder.

The other benefit to reducing my cellar stash is my wife no longer asks why I have so much beer in the basement. :stuck_out_tongue:

So do you sort by color or keep them alphabetical by beer name, brewery name or state? Or does that require another spreadsheet?

Second full size fridge in the basement for me. 2x freezer space and sometime cooling/storing leftovers. Such as 20 lbs of pulled pork, ribs etc.

Totally agree on that statement. Guys can get a lot if you compromise. Like when I go to snag beer, I always tell my wife to go snag some cloths or something she wants, she is happy to go shop and I get my stuff, win win....

Sort by color? No, no point in that for my purposes.

Alphabetical by beer name, brewery name or state? Noap. All irrelevant from my perspective since for most I want to mix up what I drink and keep track of age/shelf life..

Another spreadsheet? Why would another be needed? I suspect that with this question you are either being silly, sarcastic, or demonstrating how little you know about computerized tools

I'm working on slowly reducing the size of my cellar. Now that we have lots of bottle shops in PA the need to have a cellar and keep track of bottle age is being greatly reduced from what it was when most beer in PA was by the case only.

Nice! My wife actually was the one who suggested I get a beer fridge since she wanted my stuff out of "her" fridge. Who was I to disagree?!?

This is a fantastic idea ... I really need to set one of these up. I find way too many random stragglers that should have been drunk months earlier.

Plus if you want to try a bit of aging of stuff it's very helpful. Unlike some I find the beers I'm aging do change over time and it's interesting to track those changes.
