So Sheffields is denying having sent out an email earlier and is "unsure" who sent it but apparently not only is tonight's event not until 8 (email said 7), but there is also no bcs vanilla. Just a heads up for anyone who came to the city tonight specially for it. There is bcs coffee, however.
No idea. Our waiter took care of us though. Btw, anyone else notice Sheffields has a fridge with 05/07 bcs, angel share, original madame rose and other first goose island bottlings in addition to stuff like 08 Bigfoot and various cantillons? And yes, I already tried to order it. Stuff isn't for sale At least not right now...
Not from Chicago, but my brother lives there and I visit frequently. Went there the day after DLD and we asked our waiter about them and she said the manager 'is trying to build the hype around them before they will sell them.' Great place, but that's lame as hell.
I saw that fridge and asked the same thing. Only been there once, that place is interesting in that they have different 'schools' of beer with different taps in each section of the bar.
Yeah they have slowly added beers to that fridge. Asked the bartender a month ago if they were sale, and they said no but soon. I'm just curious to see how much they are going to charge for a 09' KBS or '05 BCS. Also, I believe they are aging a case of BCBCS...
$12/6 maybe 7 oz of coffee. Hellah overpriced. I'm not gonna be happy when they charge $30+'for vintage bcs though they have 07...#isitpappylol
All I know is I don't care about the email. It says right on their Facebook page that Vanilla would be there. I got there at at 6:15 asking if they were startIng vanilla at 7. The guy gave me a weird ass look and said, the taps were only for Goose employees, from 7 to 8, open to public at 8 and no Vanilla. I pointed out the website and they just gave me a dirty look, like I was calling their mother a *****. So 8 pm finally comes around, and BCBCS is $12 a 8 oz pour. Just saying, bait and switch is a bitch.
Well they did comp us a round of the iipa and a free ten commandments bottle plus free coffee. Just paid for one bcs coffee and the food ($30 bill maybe) so I suppose it's ok. I think they tried to keep us happy because my friend drove to Chicago just for the event hoping to try vanilla for the first time. I feel bad it keeps eluding him.
Oh it was absolutely a bait and switch IMO. I just wish I coulda had the old ass angels share or 05 bcs instead of that gusher mediocre prune soda tht was called 10 commandments. Our waiter was awesome though, A for effort on his part.
Ever since Phil left and Ric passed away, Sheffields has been pretty horrible. They seem to be emptying their reserves (KBS tasting) for exorbitant prices. It really is a shame. I ended up paying $15 for a pour of CBS and I only agreed to it because I had already made the trip. I doubt that I will ever be going back unless I am in the area and desperate for craft.
I can't really speak to the bar much any more because I moved away for law school 3 years ago, but I remember in the year before that Sheffields was always an awesome goto place. Had my first surly there in addition to many great memories in 08/09....that said, their prices did seem a bit high for the stuff I tend to order. I paid $18 for a bcs coffee at a different bar last night, so 12/8 oz was a bit extreme Edit: Plz no omg where was that bar BMs, thanks
I showed up at 6pm. The rep from Goose Andrew came to our table and we asked about vanilla and he said sorry only coffee. He bought us a round of black mission and gave us some posters....nice guy. The $12 for coffee was robbery !!!! Not happy!!!
They have multiple cases of BCBCS, at least a case or two of Bramble, and quite a few BCBVS bottles too if I'm not mistaken. Check out the cabinet on the left-end of the Beer School bar too. They have vintage Bell's beers that look to be original or at least VERY old bottlings.
I cannot believe the prices people are willing to pay for barrel aged beers these days. It truly is a wonderful time to be a brewer or bar owner, wish I were so lucky!
