Step-Mom is visiting Madison this week, and she has graciously offered to head to Woodman's (Milwaukee St location, I believe). I'm from St. Louis, so was wondering what sort of shelf gems to ask her to pick up. Per SeekaBrew, WI gets the following, amongst many others, that we don't:

AleSmith, Central Waters, Destihl, New Glarus (of course), Smuttynose, The Bruery, Victory

I'll stock up on the NG Regular lineup, as I always do. Anything else from NG that I should have her hunt for me while there? I know what's on their schedule, but am curious as to what will be on the shelf?

Over the years, she's brought back a lot of other WI shelf stuff - O'so, Capitol, Ale Asylum - and I haven't been impressed. Any WI stuff (even from those three) that I should try?

    Thanks!

New Glarus Cran-bic should be out this week. Oud Bruin, Scream, and Apple Ale are all still on the shelf most likely. Maybe some Dubbel, too. All are delicious.

FFF hits Madison, sometimes Woodman's gets bombers of Dreadnaught/Arctic Panzer Wolf/whatever bomber has just been released, along with their regular line-up sans Zombie Dust.

Alesmith is delicious but rarely fresh in Wisconsin. If the IPA is less than a month old, have her pick one up.

CW- anything from the Brewer's Reserve Barrel-Age series. Brewhouse Coffee Stout.

Lake Louie Bunny Green Toe IPA and Louie's Reserve Scotch ale are both delicious.

If you like Pumpkin beers, Whole Hog Pumpkin Ale is one of the best, along with Lakefront's Imperial Pumpkin aged in Brandy Barrels.

If there is any possible way she can get to Star Liquor on Willy Street for a few Black Husky bottles, I highly recommend it.

I'll second the Black Husky. Picked up Howler pale, 1 Simcoe hopped and the other equinox hopped, last week while in Milwaukee. What an amazing under the radar brewery. Gotta track down more!!

Jenifer Street Market should be another stop for one hell of a selection. Grab the coat on the wall before going into the cooler, you will be in there for quite awhile!

Where is the Brewhouse Coffee Stout? I never saw it this year.

Good point. I've seen it randomly at a few Milwaukee area shops, but it's still kind of "undiscovered" down here.

I wish I had bought more in the Fox Cities...$5/bomber. Now I can't find it anywhere.

and to help OP - there were some Hoppin Frog Barrel Aged B.O.R.I.S. (and regular B.O.R.I.S. and regular D.O.R.I.S.) when I went through Woodman's after the Wild Peach release. Also, Surly Bitter Brewer, Rodenbach Grand Cru...a few others that I picked up.

You WI folks are always the best! Prost!

Can't wait to see what sort of haul she brings back!

I know you dismissed O'SO but their Night Train porter is (IMHO) excellent

Perfect timing for this post. I'm heading into Madison this weekend and didn't really know of any WI breweries to be looking for other than NG.

Convenient Distraction is their best porter.

I haven't forked over the $13-ish for a bottle yet. Maybe I will to do a side-by-side with Victory @ Sea.

I know you mentioned New Glarus in your original post, but I highly recommend stocking up on Staghorn and Hometown Blonde - both are superb this year.

It has a better vanilla flavor. V@S comes off somewhat artificial.

All you awesome people visiting Madison to buy beer, do not leave with out a case of New Glarus Spiced Ale. You are so lucky it is still available!

I like it, but in terms of $ vs quality, I don't it's worth buying over NT.
