Coming to Chicago for the first time (aside from trips through the airport and a one day trip decades ago)....I'll be staying at the Sheraton Grand and looking for places to drink and to buy beer within walking distance - anywhere good nearby? It's only 48 hours and while I'd love to disappear in a cab and check out Revolution and a million other spots I can't bail on my colleagues or the conference for too long. Any guidance will be very much appreciated - thanks y'all!

Boy, wish I could help. You gotta venture into the neighborhoods to really wet your craft beak....

Ha. I will also be there for a conference this fall -- kind of a brutal area for craft beer, in my experience, but there's a Binny's down the road that's certainly walkable if you're hoping to bring something home with you.

Binny's Grand ave is probably your best bet for stores. It'll be a bit of walk but probably worth your time.

Yup, definitely go to the Binny's on Grand. The Loop has plenty of bars you can go to if you want good shit on tap, but if you're looking for a bottle store within walking distance, Binny's is always a really good call. Nice people at the Grand one, too.

The Streeterville Whole Foods has a decent selection of beers to go as well as a bar that usually has FFF, Half Acre and Surly on tap.

Thanks folks, much appreciated. Looking at the neighborhood online I figured it would be tough for craft beer - just like coming into Grand Central station or something here in NYC. I'm not planning on flying home with stuff but I'll go to Binny's and Whole Foods for some hotel room libations.

@SeanBond, got a favored bar or two in the loop that would have a really nicely curated taplist?

Not sure what you consider walking distance, but Monk's Pub on lake street is probably the best craft beer bar in the area. I think that's a walk of about 1 mile. They always have a good tap list that is very regularly rotated and updated daily on beermenus.

Clark Street Ale House comes to mind.

You're within stumbling distance to Timothy o tooles. Great wings and very underrated tap list

Spot on. Timothy O'Toole's is one of the underrated spots for craft beers. Good bar food plus a good beer selection.

You can try Howells & Hood or Blackfinn as well. Nothing really mindblowing at either, but some solid craft selections. I'd probably lean towards H&H based on their beer menu, although I haven't been there.

Monk's is a good choice as was mentioned. Another one with a decent taplist (place isn't anything special though) is Stocks and Blondes. If you can make it to Halsted (probably farther than you want to walk), that's where I'd go (Au Cheval, Haymarket, Lone Wolf).

Croush mentioned Howell's and Hood. That is going to be one of the closest things in walking distance from the Sheraton...

    Places/Beerfly has a zipcode search, Here's what's in 60611.
There's also the new Nearby mapping feature. SideDoor is close, Timothy O'Tooles and Howell's & Hood are nearby options, but better options within a mile are Jake Melnicks, Monks, and Clark St. Alehouse as others mentioned.

If you don't want to walk all the way to Binny's, the Eataly at Ohio/Wabash has a small but solid selection of craft. They always seem to have a few 3 Floyds (but almost never Zombie Dust), some Half Acre, some Revolution, and a few other more national craft (like Dogfish).

Certainly a MUCH smaller selection than Binny's (and probably ~$2 more a sixer), but at least it is closer.

And another person already mentioned, but Clark Street Ale House is a solid dive-y bar spot with a solid tap list if you are willing to walk a bit

I used to live on Illinois right by Navy Pier--I second all the recommendations for Timmy O'tooles and Howell's and Hood.

The Whole Foods on Grand and Columbus has a pretty decent bottle selection, too.

I can easily have a 6er of zombie dust for you if you would like. I frequent Binny's on Grand if you would like to meet up as well.

Don't discount Timothy O'Toole's!!! Of all the choices, that's probably where I'd go. I also like sports a lot, and they have the best TV selection.
