I was wondering what the best way to ship a growler of IPA is. Trying to keep it as fresh as possible. Overnight it? Any advice helps. Thanks

Depends on where you are shipping and how the growler was filled. Its pretty cold nation wide so you've that going for you. A good bottom filled filled growler should last the trip if its 3-4 days (counter pressure much longer). If you are shipping to a cool/cold climate you're golden just tape the shit out of the closure and bubble wrap it well, box in a box with packing peanuts between. If it's going somewhere warm I just use styro medical shippers with gel ice packs inside.

Do you have any idea what overnight shipping costs? Just ship it like you would bottles. Pack carefully.

Which of the shippers (USPS, FedEx, UPS, others?) will ship beer?

    Cheers!

What are the consequences if the growler breaks in shipment?

Thanks MinorThreat. The growler will be filled from the tap and just screw capped on. Using ice gel packs isnt a bad idea but those dont stay cool for very long. Im shipping to NY from SF. I just dont want the beer to taste like shit or be flat when it gets there so thats mainly what I wanted advice on.

My only instance of breakage was a growler (shipped with other beers)

I was refunded the price of the growler and tip, along with the shipping cost, got the other bottles back, picked up a replacement growler brought it back to the UPS store with the receipt, and packed it there and shipped it.

Some UPS stores are cool.... I now only ship from my local bottle-shop though, so that completely eliminates the need to worry.

If it's an IPA, it needs to be shipped via a seafaring vessel like the olden days. All other beers can go via FedEx or UPS.
