So it short I recently had a new found friend mule beers to me. This person lives in Portland, OR and I live in Charlotte, NC. I created a shipping label from myself to myself and gave the box a weight of 30 pounds, no dimensions on Fedex with my shipping account. I send the label to her, she ships it it gets on the way and I get a notification saying my box was re-labeled bc label was unreadable before it left the store she dropped it off at. I was like okay that is fine no worries. Box gets to me, no issues everything is perfect. I get charged for this shipment Tuesday about a week after, $76 dollars. Some other info: The box was a 12 shipper that was full of bombers (22oz) The box was 18x16x14 according to the relabel The original label was 30 pounds the relabeled was 35 pounds So what I am trying to get advice for is how to make sure I am getting the cheapest price or a better way to do this or what I did wrong? Was this just a rare event? What does it cost you to ship 12 across the country? Any advice would be appreciated!
I've never shipped anything that big or that far. So people will chime in. It does seem high to me, but it seems like you most likely got dinged because of size. When you originally created the label, did you click the calculate price part so it would give you an estimate (it lists all the rates for that package)? Just curious what that had said if you did, because maybe it was close to $76. But also, maybe it was way off because you gave them no dimensions. As dimensions matter more than weight (multiple small super heavy boxes take up less room than 1 really large, really light box). However I just did the Fedex quick estimate and based on zip codes from Raleigh and Portland (no clue what the exact ones are) with a box dimensions as listed, ground was listed as: 30lb - $36.16 35lb - $41.19 they do often charge a bit more for residential, but the price you were charged does seem a bit high when those are the quick quotes.
