I have been drinking craft beer for several years and have now decided to try and get some beers that are not available to purchase in MN. I was recently told that we could not have beer shipped to MN. I think my friend might be thinking of breweries shipping to a household. I was really just looking to get a couple friends to ship me stuff from around the country. Is it illegal to ship beer to a friend in MN?? Can we trade with friends in other states? I am new to the shipping/trading and any help would be appreciated.

I read that blog over the weekend and it is great for a new trader. I guess my question is specifically around if it is legal or not? There was a lot in there in regards to masking the sloshing sound. I have freinds and family in Santa Rosa, Chicago and Portland. As much as I would like some Russian River or Three Floyds shipped to me I don't want to cause any hassle for my family members that would ship to me. Maybe I am just a nervous noob, but I just want to know what I am getting into before I start.

if you go fedex or ups it isn't illegal, but it is against their terms... if you are going to have them send you stuff, make a fedex account and get the packages dropped off, or if you can get them picked up at a house, that is even better.

Trading has always been quasi-legal at best. It is not legal for a business to sell you beer and ship it to you, it is questionable to have someone else buy you the booze and ship it to you. But thats not going to be real strictly enforced.

Is it technically illegal, probably, will an enforcement agency go after you for getting a small amount of beer shipped to you for personal use by a friend? doubtful.

However if you are having them send you things to try and sell on Craigslist you will be in trouble.
