Hey BA enthusiasts! Hope all is well. I'm sure this has been talked about before but how easy/difficult is it to ship beer to a different state? What do you guys find to be the easiest methods? Any rules and regs to watch out for? Any info/insight will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Lots of padding and material. No movement at all. I wrap each beer individually, and sometimes will tape two or three together that are wrapped so there's less movement. Fill the rest of a sturdy box with bubble wrap, newspaper, peanuts, styrofoam, etc. Shipping isn't that difficult, it can be expensive though. Shipping to states closer to you is best and less time for the company to beat up on the box. East coast to west coast takes a good 4 days or so, but I've never had issues. No movement is always key though. If you shake the box and feel any slight movement then more than likely you need to repack it. Should be super tight in the box and be able to withstand all the tossing and throwing the companies do.

Packaging and securing I have under wraps. It's the actual shipping part that I am curious about. Do you just take it up to like a UPS or FedEx? Is it that simple?

Make a FedEx or UPS Account. Make and print your own labels at home. Have box all taped up with label already taped and secured. Drop off at FedEx or UPS.

Yes, it's that simple. Many of the frequent traders have an account with those companies. Then you ship and pack at home, print a label, and drop it off. I don't do tons of trading so I bring it to the place and they weight it and I pay there. I always say it's glassware and never have an issue. Some people say snow globes, ceramic mugs, hot sauces, grilling sauces, etc. I use glassware because it's easiest and they say ok and go. I've read posts before with people saying they were given a hard time, but for me it's always been easy. In and out, no questions, and only one breakage (my first ever trade and I probably didn't pack it the best).

Yeah I don't have many trades done, but at least 6 of mine have been shipments out to Cali. I always tell the guy it's glassware and the last time I was there he asked if it was smoking glassware.. Like if it was has it been used etc. I told him it was my homemade hot sauce. Kinda thought he was going to open the box but I haven't had an issue.

I've always printed the label at home so all I have to do is drop it off and walk out. Never been asked about contents or anything.

Smoking glasswhere? Like a bong? haha. If I'm ever asked to specify I usually say mugs. Never had a problem after. I have to get a scale and open an account to just ship at home, but haven't gotten around to it yet.

If you print the label at home, Do they just bill your account?

For me you pre-pay based on size and weight and location. Sometimes I dont know the exact size or weight at time of printing out label so sometimes they adjust the bill. I have mine just linked to PayPal or a credit card.

Yes, they will bill the credit card that is linked to your account.

I definitely suggest creating a FedEx / UPS account so that you can create the shipping label (dimensions, weight, address it's going to, etc) at home. When I first started shipping, I did not have an account and would bring the package to the FedEx store and have the employee create the label. They would shake it, ask what was in it, and other questions of that nature. I never had an issue regardless, but with creating your own label all you have to do is drop off the package at the shipping center, no questions asked. Avoids any extra troubles and inconveniences, no matter how small they may be, and is also infinitely smoother and faster.

This is all great info. Exactly what I was looking for. My brother lives in Chicago.......right near Pipeworks! Trying to get him to send me some of those amazing IPAs they are brewing over there (and vice/versa).

    You guys rock! Cheers.
