im sure there is a thread on here discussing this topic, but I am planning to ship a 1.5 liter magnum and want to hear any special advice to avoid. I am a very experienced trader of 3+ years, but have always avoided these big guys. Any advice is appreciated!
To be honest, I've never shipped one either, but I'd treat it like any other trade with a few exceptions. (1) I'd ship it by itself with NO extras. Less bottles in box, the less you have to worry about something breaking causing suspicion or box to be confiscated. (2) Double box (3) Pad the crap out of the bottle and around it inside the box... (4) make sure you use a "heavier" box and tape the crap out of the seams on the outside
I'm not sure if it will fit, but it is worth trying. I recently received a package where the bottles were packed inside a plastic paint bucket. The kind you would get at Lowe's or Home Depot. The bucket was then packed in a box. I will use that bucket next time I'm shipping a rare bottle.
I shipped two magnums and a 3l recently. The trick packing peanuts and bubble wrap. A Lot of bubble wrap. the bottles aren't as heavy and you would think and the packing peanuts keeps the bottles still in transit. Just make sure you use a big box for it. If you are shipping additional beers with it then double box it.
I picked up a magnum shipper from my local wine, beer and liquor store. Fit perfectly. Shipped it by itself.
