So never shipped before and just sent my first package out fedex 3 day I think and it was $23. It was only a single bottle with paper to fill a 12 x 12 x 6 box. Is that even close to right on the price?
Fed Ex ground is the way to go, it's a little cheaper than UPS I believe, but everything you ship is size and weight.
Depends on weight, size of the box, and distance it's going. It's also not at all linear. You'll pay more for the first bottle than for the second & third. But, above a certain size you may trigger "dimensional weight" and see a big jump in the price. But, personally, it seems like a rough rule of thumb might be $1/lb.
Yeah, and to add, it's going to cost you at least $10-$15 just to ship one bottle with Fedex/UPS. It's really not economical to send less than 6 bottles IMO. I've done it a couple of times, but I usually try to expand 1-for-1 types of trades. Also, as an aside, consider this a public service announcement to new traders: please send extras to your partners!
Where did you drop/ship the package? Printed your own label, FedEx Office, or 3rd party shipping location?

Dropped at fedex store, filled out shipping label used my own box did it myself. I think I just picked a better shipping method. I will know better next time
