Anyone ever get this before? http://screencast.com/t/QWSOWuWEho

I packed it pretty well, so I'm shocked it might be broken. What happens next? Do I get it back? Do they assess the package for insurance purposes?

Yes this happens from time to time, usually thanks to insanely careless and don't give a fuck employees.

What happens next? You may get it back, you may not. I had 2 different packages be damaged on their way to me; one guy got his back, one didn't.

You have the option of filing an insurance claim (up to $100 is free thru Fedex) but to do so, you have to describe the contents of the box, and well...

Wait to see what happens, but don't be surprised if you don't ever get another update. You may have to call Fedex to get some answers.

Most importantly, it is on you to work this out with your trading partner; you're responsible for his getting the beers promised in the trade. Good luck, sucks when that happens.

Thanks for the insight. I just gave them a call and they said they will just ship it back to me. So weird that they won't just deliver it to the person and let us get the damage sorted out.

But yeah, definitely will make it right, I just need to figure out what broke first. I packaged that thing like it was full of eggs, so very surprised this happened.

I feel your pain. The guy I traded with who didn't get his back packed a 6-bottle styro shipper! WTF were they doing, kicking it around the warehouse?!

Surprised it was Fedex. UPS is usually better at destroying shit, in my experience.

I had this happen as well. My box was returned to me, however, it had ZERO damage, as I packed that thing for a nuclear holocaust. It was inspected and noted as damaged. I then received a legal letter from FedEx telling me that I've been a bad boy. Good luck OP.

Odds are they repack your box and send it back to you. The broken bottle or bottles will be gone, but you should be able to fill out the insurance claim and just label it "collectable glassware". I had an issue with one particular bottle that leaked under pressure and i sent out three of the same bottle in seperate trades in the same week, all of which leaked. Curious thing was, one box contained Hill Farmstead bottles, which when i received my box back where gone...funny huh?

Ive heard of some people who have had fork lifts skewer their boxes. I received a box that had probably a 1" puncture in it.

I would assume that the guy who handled it was like Jim Carey in Ace Ventura pet detective.

This is weird... because I've never had a package damaged until this week. I shipped out two trades on the same day, both packed well in my opinion (again, never had an issue before), and they BOTH ended up damaged while on the same leg of transit. Also FedEx... must have had their pay cut this week or something.

I have destroyed things with a forklift, it happens. No packing will save you from that.

Package is supposed to be back to me tomorrow. This thing better be demolished for the trouble.

Had exact same situation last week, sent 12 slot styro shipper to NYC[all HF, $150ish]. Tracking updates indicated box on truck for delivery, then got same exception notice as you. 5 days later box made it all the way back to local sorting facility down the road from me, that's when another delivery exception was sent to me. I called local manager and played dumb, she told me the box was not getting released to me no matter what and directed me to file a claim if I wanted to pursue compensation--while informing me it'd be a waste of time. I just mailed out the claim paperwork an hour ago, hope you have more reasonable fedex employees handling the return of your box.

Same thing happened to me this week. My box made it to my recipient's local FedEx distribution center where it then showed up as being damaged. Despite 5 calls to FedEx and being told that they would be able to continue to ship it to the recipient, it's now making it's way back across the country to me. I'm just hoping I actually get the package and can re-pack as necessary and send it back out. I imagine if they were confiscating or tossing the box they would've told me on the phone by now.

They didn't do a delivery and it was pushed back to the next business day. I find out tomorrow.

Wow so luckily I got the box back and everything was fine as far as I can tell. It did have this label on it saying that they discarded broken contents, but everything is accounted for. http://screencast.com/t/Tm949DYCPT

The box is beat to shit though and the bottom looks like hell. I guess they might have had to repack the box?

You got lucky. I had a 12 bottle shipper containing $200+ that mysteriously disappeared after arriving in Oregon two weeks ago. I was instructed to file a claim by FedEx who indicated that the trace for my package had failed and it could not be located. I thought it strange that they were being so vague. Behind the scenes I know a FedEx employee who looked into the drivers notes in the FedEx system using my tracking number. The notes stated that driver damaged the box and smelled beer at which point they destroyed the contraband as per FedEx policy. My friend then explains that there is no sense in attempting to file a claim. She also confided that drivers suspecting beer or wine casually open boxes and indicate that the contraband is destroyed as per FedEx policy. That is to say, the drivers are enjoying my brews right now...

Yeah, I def feel like I dodged a bullet here. Not sure how to prevent this happening in the future, but UPS is getting my business when I resend this package out.
