Hi everyone, I have read some forums regarding some issues with shipping in Vermont. I was planning on checking two cases of beer from my trip and shipping the rest. Are these same issues in existence in Mass? Thanks, Liza
it's more of just luck of the draw. I shipped back a ton of barrelworks and bruery when I visited family in cali. the fed ex guy kinda evil glared me shipping, was worried he was gonna complain. oppositely, I've ordered offline before easy peezy. and chicago, the guy there told me he loved 3f and needs to go soon lol. the laws are pretty stupid because they're all over the place. and some with loopholes, like you can't ship a single bottle to your own house but if you ship to a friend that owns a business you can send 5 cases. they really need to just update it and make it universal. or maybe universal outside weather related stuff.
Yes, agreed. I was asking in regard to the original post that mentioned issues in VT. I always use a VT location since it is closest option to work.
USPS Priority medium box flat rate of $12.65 is unbeatable ... can easily fit 6 16oz cans in there. have been doing that way for a few months and have had zero issues to FL, CA, IL, VA, NJ
Shipping beer through USPS is breaking federal law and could get you in serious trouble. I have shipped through USPS a few times with no issues but once I found out it was against federal law I stopped. Wasnt worth the few extra bucks to ship with FedEx one rate boxes. UPS and FedEx are both private companies and may have rules against shipping alcohol but its not breaking any federal law.
Except there is no actual risk. Have had damaged boxes delivered to my door that were literally leaking beer. This whole federal law thing has to be the biggest myth in shipping. Find one person who has been prosecuted. Check the trading help thread and you will find lots of people who have had issues with UPS or FedEx but nobody that I am aware of has ever been contacted by USPS. Good idea to zip loc or trash bag it, but otherwise good to go.
Shipping beer to or from MA through UPS or FedEx may not be a violation of Federal law, but is still against MA law (although wine shipments were recently liberalized). It's all against the law and against company policies. It just a matter of your comfort level in which laws and regulations you are willing to break. Reports of repercussions from being caught are anecdotal because it's rare, and general don't exceed confiscation of the shipment. In general people steer away from USPS, I think largely from the perceived added severity of a Federal misdemeanor over a state misdemeanor. People use UPS or FedEx depending on their experience, word of mouth, or perception that one carrier is more likely to turn a blind eye. Just be discreet and you probably be fine.
