Someone suggested this site to me as an economical way to send from the US to the EU via UPS. Has anyone used this site? Any info or experiences that you can share would be helpful.

I've used the site and it's the best rates you'll get for both domestic and international. However, you can also use pirateship.com and it's the same price since they also recently added UPS as well. PirateShip has a much better UI, GoShippo has a terrible UI. Would recommend using PirateShip over GoShippo

So, how do these companies offer better shipping? Do they basically have a pallet of packages at the airport, ready to be loaded on a plane, and whenever there is open space they get that space for a discount? Basically, I imagine it like kayak or Travelocity or whatever, but for shipping - and, they are playing the averages rather than varying rates since...you have to be ready to put those packages on the plane when there is space - at the ready.

I've been using it the last year. BOth domestic and international. I was skeptical for sure. It's crazy, how you can save a ton of money on every shipment. I've turned it along to a few other friends, who use it often. I did have 1 problem with an international shipment, but it wasn't their fault that ups "lost" the box after the receiver paid the duty. Very suspicious, but can't do much. They did reimburse the label and declared value, so not a total loss.

No idea, but don't think the way you suggest. It's probably because of combined shipments they get a discount. You piggy back on their discount. Just like at my work, we get a huge discount with DHL because our volume is high every month. As opposed to a random guy that ships one box every 6 months.
