I am putting together a trade with someone over near Belgium. Looking for advice on best practices, what to expect, and just general advice. Thanks!

Are you shipping usps flat rate?

One the custom form always keep the declared value under $30 and for item description I use collectible glassware

USPS is the only way to go. Flat Rate works.
Declared low value is important so your trading partner doesn't get slapped with import taxes.
Glasware, Olive Oil, yeast samples are all great descriptions. European customs aren't to worried about beer being shipped in. I believe it's the US that has a problem with it.

pack the box just like you would for a domestic US trade. Good luck!

Sounds good. Can you fill it out ahead of time or do you do it at usps. What's the typical shipping costs? I am in Philly so beer shipping is a no no for the state but live near Jersey. Should I do it in NJ or is pa fine?

It should be ok to ship from PA as you're the only one that knows the contents.

USPS have a number of flat rate boxes. The most common I've seen is $61 (large) and can hold up to 20lbs. Depending on packing skills I've seen them hold up to 4 large format and 3-4 small format bottles...but probably best to err on the side of caution if its your first one. Another box is smaller (medium) and costs about 75% of the large box.

Shipping Alcohol across state line via any carrier is a "no no" but we all do it.

As MrKennedy said you will use a usps large flat rate box and the cost will be $61 regardless if your shipping from P.A. or C.A. When you go to the post office pick up your large flat rate boxes and custom form, I suggest you pick up several of the boxes and forms just in case you make any mistakes.

Also find a lot of newspaper so you can line the perimeter of the box.
