I will be shipping a box to a buddy in Belgium in a few weeks and wanted to know the best procedures to take in order for it to arrive safely. Has anyone shipped to Belgium lately? Did the box arrive safely? I have shipped there before, but heard that some customs laws changed.

    Any insight appreciated. Thanks!

You should move this thread to subforum Beer Trading General/Help

I sent a package to Belgium last month by USPS - flat rate box $60 declaring as Collection - Glassware. The box arrived safe and sound after one week.

I was told in my first shipment to Netherlands to ensure that Collectable Glassware was clearly stated with a value of 30 (can't remember if that was Euros or USD). Mine got hung up and took probably nearly a month before it landed. I sent over 5 large bottles which came to $73. If you want to Express it, it is NOT THAT MUCH of a difference and should land in 3-5 days. Express for me would have been about another $15 so not that much considering that the shipment could have gotten there in 3 weeks less time. When my best int'l trading buddy sent his box it was in my hands within a week of him sending so I did not think that the express was that big of a time saving.

Customs laws in Belgium have recently changed... you'll want to keep the stated value on the cutoms form below 20 euros (i believe) or else your trading partner might get hit with a customs fee based on the value.

Agreed. Last time I declared $20 value and it went through ok.

I sent a 12-bottle shipper to my brother about 6 months ago, cost me $40 in shipping, and sent him a book, labeled it "Books and Yeast Samples". Everything got there A-OK. Caveat: my brother is in the service, so I don't think it was subject to custom laws...
