Anybody here trade or gets beer shipped from the US to the UK? Asking because I'm thinking of shipping a care package to a good mate in Caerphilly near Cardiff. Was wondering what the normal shipping cost would be and if it's worth it? I get a discount with 2 day FedEx (75%) from retail. I had a package sent to Brooklyn NY that weighed 20lbs. I had the lady check to see how much it would be if I had it shipped to the UK. Close to $70us. If I did ship to my friend it would probably be half that weight. Maybe 4 or 5 bottles/cans.
Also will the box make it throughout customs? I don't want to send a care package full of beer and spend that much $$'s and have it get confiscated through custom. Of course I'm not going to put on the label that it's beer or alcohol. Thanks in advance.

Mark it as a gift and keep the valuation around $45. Don't say it's booze but even if it gets busted by customs over here your pal will just have to pay the duty on it and a handling fee. They don't care as long as they get the cash.

More likely your problem will be with FedEx. As I understand it they scan international packages and obviously shipping booze is against their terms and conditions. Nearly all international trades out of the US to Europe go via USPS. Have you tried getting a quote from them?

I did not get a quote from USPS. I already know it would be $100+ to ship. I get a 75% discount using my airline discount through FedEx. So when I ship I alway use FedEx. Plus it's 2 day shipping. When I trade the guy who I ship to will get his package 3 or 4 days earlier than me.

I'd suggest asking in the trade forum about using FedEx for international or doing a search. I don't have any direct experience with using them as a sender or recipient for trades but it's worth throwing the question out there as it'll be seen by a wider group.
