i had a guy that i was going to conduct a trade through another website for some goose island beers...he said he went to ups and they would pack up the beer and ship it...all accounts i have read about say sometimes ups will seize your package if they open it mistakenly...i actually had a box that did not have enough peanuts so lady opened it and said it was illegal for them to ship...can i get an exact answer on this? seems it is different with each shipping location. thanks.

Shipping alcohol without a license with both Fedex and UPS is against their terms of service. If any UPS workers are fine with you shipping beer, it's because they don't know the rules or don't care.

shipping booze threw UPS is legal but you have to require "Adult Signature Required". if you don't they can't legally ship it.

Etan, as long as your not selling it there should be no problem. you don't need a license for trades

You need to register with UPS if you are shipping alcohol and they won't let you unless you have a license that allows you to ship across state lines. If all it took was saying "hey guys this is booze" to be allowed to ship then we all would do it that way to avoid any risks of trying to hide it.

Did they recently change their policy or are you just spreading false information?

And I drive faster than the speed limit on the highway...that doesn't mean it's legal. I have done nearly a hundred trades and think I understand what you are getting at. It's just not right to say things like, "shipping booze through UPS is legal" or "you don't need a license for trades".

On my first trade here my UPS store actually unpacked my box and put more peanuts in it. I was nervous as hell and said I would do it so the cashier wouldn't see what it was. She saw but she didn't say a thing. She even gave me a AAA discount even though I don't have AAA. But she was flirty the entire time. 5 days later and tectactoe got his box perfectly fine.

Make sure you have another close by drop off location or are willing to schedule pick ups. Hell hath no fury etc etc etc.

You kind of answered your own question right there. It's a legal gray area and against policy, but how much each individual employee/location cares is all over the place. Sometimes boxes break in transit and the employee repackages the bottles with tender loving care and sends the box on to its destination. Other times the employees destroy the contents and send you a nasty letter.

It's generally better to just employ a strategy of "don't ask don't tell" and pack it yourself.

Roll the dice, enjoy the rush. Unlike gaming, you can improve your chances by doing a stellar job packing.
