I'm pretty sure that KBC is a Shipyard line. Have been tempted many times and thought better of it.

I don't know how Shipyard stays in business.

Because Mainers continue to support it and people who don't like beer buy copious amounts of Pumpkinhead

We did a pumpkin tasting last fall. A bunch of singles with small pours between 4 guys. Shipyard was last by a long shot
--(DFH, Weyerbaher (winner), Southern Tier, and a couple of others). They consistently under deliver.

Why would anyone into good beer do that? Oh that's right, I forgot, you like to punish yourself.

Exactly...I suspect that most Pumpkinhead sells to people who primarily drink BMC stuff. We must bear in mind, however, that most of said people would be horrified by many of the beers that we so covet. I might not generally enjoy Shipyard beer, but it does happen to be one path to full blown beer geekery, as it was for me. I think it's cool that so many people are dipping their toes into the water these days.

I have a friend whom I love dearly. She is "into craft beer." I smile and nod a lot because that interest consists of stocking up on Pumpkinhead and going to brewpubs then complaining if they don't have a blueberry beer with blueberries floating in it. Folks like her keep Shipyard going and honestly she's one of the better people I know.

I wonder if it's worse than SA Cherry Wheat...for me that's always the beer I compare bad beer to. I didn't think I could dislike a beer more...but I may have to search out this stuff to find out.

Yes its worse than Cherry Wheat. I had Cherry Wheat a few months ago so its fresh in my memory.
Im gonna stick up for Shipyard and say their Export Ale is pretty damn good. Its a very good summer beer. I was drinking it this weekend and it had decent hope presence and was no worse than Boston Lager I'd even slightly better.

yeah, Export is one of the strongest things Shipyard makes, IMO. also always one of the beers i have noted the strongest difference between bottled and tap (possibly because when i have it on tap it's always ICE COLD, but i'll try to give Shipyard some credit here). never like it much in the bottle, but totally passable on draft, especially when it's like a 9 dollar pitcher.

but yeah, just another opportunity for me to say: Pumpkinhead is in the top 5 worst beers i've ever had, and the only beers i know for sure i like less both have "Corona" in their name.

Bootleggers Mint Chocolate Porter is kinda cool and unique, but I'm sure Shipyard will completely suck at brewing something even decent as usual.

My only Shipyard experience was Pumpkinhead, and it was like apple cider, not pumpkin ale. Never tried another beer from them since.

I'd love to see them do a collaboration with Rogue at some point. That could make for a damn fine brew.

Shipyard is the 15th largest brewery in the US Im pretty sure its not just Mariners.

I read a market analysis of pumpkin head and dispite being available for like 2 months makes up more than 15 % of their sales. It also stated the majority of buyers it was the only craftbeer they purchase. They mentioned special release parties with people flocking in to get get some and social media sites with users announcing where and when they found some...sounds familure.
