I do; for the most part I agree with the 'Shityard' epithet, but I do like Prelude. World class? No, but tasty and cheap, great with hearty food.
Had a glass @ the Seadog Pub in Woburn this week (essentially a SY tied house w/other decent options). Always like to have a glass or 2 of Prelude this time of year, it's one of SY's decent, non-craptastic offerings.
Prelude and Longfellow are probably their only decent (read: drinkable) offerings, but neither is great.
Prelude is hardly a beer I seek out, and not one I'd ever buy in a bottle, but it's a decent winter beer and one that I've found to be a pretty reliable standby in bars with lesser tap lists in New Hampshire and Maine.
My assessment was based on the last time I paid money for a Shipyard beer, which must have been about five years ago. I'm not very up-to-date on the butterbeer these days, although I have sampled a few things here and there out of morbid curiosity. It's important to be reminded of just how bad "craft" beer can be. Makes you appreciate the good beers that are out there.
Might be worthwhile to wait a couple months for the inevitable Prelude fire sale at Gary's in Portsmouth. $10 a case normally.
