Now, I saw the double ESB (I'm assuming they put some double Old Thumper into bourbon barrels for this one, but I'm not sure, and it can't be confirmed) on the shelves at RSVP today (only 2 bottles) priced at $13.49 and decided I'd come on here to check them out, only to find out that it JUST got released. MSRP is $14.99, so I guess it could be a good deal (really only one way to find out, and that is to buy it and drink it obviously).

What are people's thoughts of what these beers could be (I'm aware of the general negative feedback on the brewery already, so no need for that input), and would you be willing to check them out? The BBA smashed pumpkin sounds interesting, but that won't be out till next month. I'll probably hold off on the BBA double ESB for now, but might check it out if it's still there the next time I go.

The barrels might help hide "The Butta" flavor.

My only hope for these is they are less time constrained, so they actually give the ringwood the time it needs to develop. That said, I'm not really getting my hopes up.

Doubtfull. Unless they're bottle conditioned, in which case the yeast might have the chance to clean up all the diacetyl. Hell, they could be fantastic....but coming from a brewery known to cut corners...meh, not worth the $$$ to find out.

I'm totally in for BA Smashed Pumpkin. I'm actually a pretty big fan of Prelude as well. Hopefully I won't have to go to Portland to find these. Thanks for the info.

    Groundbreaking stuff here.

Seriously, why not do 6 or 4 packs?

I saw the BA ESB in Portsmouth the other day. Not sure how far the distribution will reach but that shortens the trip from MA by about 45 minutes (assuming the others get distributed in the same way).

Man, I love prelude. I know people here in general are not fans of Shipyard but this a great beer, definitely worth a try.

I think it's because a: I lived in Portland for 2 years. B: It's 6.8% and c: you can get a 12 pack for $13.00 usually. So I am always happy to see this in the winters. Bourbon Barrel Aged? I'm not sure it will be a slam dunk but it's not going to suck. Here's a link to the regular Prelude for those that don't know:

I had the BBS Double ESB at the Shipyard brewery. It was pretty smooth and tasty.
