    Natty-no explanation needed.

    In the early 80’s if you asked for a Black & Tan you would get Bass Ale and Guinness Stout, they were likely the only two ales on tap.

    Growing up in Baltimore . . . that would be correct. We sometimes just said Gimme a Boh!

    In New Brunswick (Canada) where I spent my formative years, you either ordered Moose (Moosehead Lager), Moose Red (Mooshead Pale Ale), or a 'Pine (Alpine Lager).

    Anything else and you got a dirty look, because it meant the bartender had to go digging in the fridge for it.

    I wonder if you could get away with ordering a "Cow" in Wisconsin?

    Just remembered the schooners of Lowenbrau at Lum's in Greensboro and Richmond in the late 60s. It was a big glass and we loved the good fresh Munich Lowenbrau they served. At the Lum's in Richmond, down near Monroe Park we ended up asking for schooners of Lowie. We made it a regular stop after basketball practice. They loved seeing coming in the door. We couldn't get enough!

    BL = Bud Light
    Bud Heavy = Budweiser
    Natty = Natural Light
    Rock = Rolling Rock
    Pony = Rolling Rock
    Water = Coors Light
    Bucket = 4 SNPA's

    That's how it was at the dive I frequented in New York during college, man I miss those days.

    Was that the same Lums as the chain? There were several in the Rochester NY area, maybe they were bigger than I realized. I knocked back a few Lowenbraus back then too.

    It used to be common for people to order Fat Tire via "Gimme a Fattie" in CO.

    Granted, that has gone on to mean other things in CO, but it also seems like Fat Tire has dwindled here. It used to be in nearly every bar in the state. You could order it anywhere - it was just a given that they'd have it, or they'd offer you Avalanche as a Pepsi-like substitute. Now I don't know if it's even in CO's top 5 craft beers anymore.

    Slightly off topic (sorry)... at a bar in Havre De Grace, Maryland, a few years ago I ordered a Natty Boh. I was asked it I wanted it with Old Bay. Apparently that was a "thing" in that region- Old Bay around the rim of a glass of Natty Boh.

    Two things I really like that I decidedly did not like together.
