Well, the best-of hits keep coming this year, in both the limited releases and the variety packs. This is a great opportunity for new Short's fans in the expanded distro footprint to drink what we've been having. Cheers to you, BAs!

My personal favorite of these four, and one I'm still sore that lost fan's choice for last year (to Goodnight Bodacious). Probably the first saison I had, before I knew what the style was. Another collaboration brew with Half Acre, the partnership that gave us Freedom of '78.

    From Short's:
Captain Fantasy is a Pear Saison with profuse hoppiness. Light-bodied with a bright, clear, golden color, this Saison is brewed with pear to complement the aromas of spice and the fruity fragrance of Sorachi Ace hops. Captain Fantasy has flavors of sweet pear and tart lemon and a lively amount of carbonation to cleanse the palate. The overall fruitiness of Captain Fantasy is interrupted by an assertive hop bitterness that dominates the finish.

Schwartzbier isn't something I usually crave after, but this one is pretty good for the style. Maybe his Bourbon big brother will escape Private Stache land one day...

    From Short's:
Sustenance Black Beer, classically referred to as a Schwarz beer, is a dark American Lager brewed in the spring. Soft and sweet on the palate, the roasted, dark caramel grains lend to a satisfying drinking experience, while Lager yeast creates a refreshing thirst-quenching sensation. This combination provides a rich, full-flavored, light-bodied brew.

    22 IBU

Ok, this one everyone should be familiar with. It's been a limited release, it's been a seasonal release, and now it's back.

    From Short's:
ControversiALE, FKA Hangin’ Frank, is a tribute to Simcoe hops. Simcoe hops are extremely sought after and limited, so Short’s is excited to share this unique brew with Michigan craft beer lovers every spring. The earthy, citrus, and pine laced nose is instantly detectable. Large amounts of toasted grains and high alpha hops form a perfect union that creates the cool sensation of toasted sourdough covered with zesty grapefruit hop marmalade. ControversiALE has an enchantingly straightforward hop aroma, flavor, and overall intensity through ample additions of only Simcoe hops. While this beer is hopped like an IPA, it drinks like a pale ale. The light, refreshing qualities of this beer make it perfect for springtime.

    65 IBU

This one's an awesome little Helles, although it looks like it's undergone a - disappointing but understandable - name and label change. ("It's not just light, it's extremely electro-light!"). Satire can only goe so far.

    From Short's:
Thristie Mutilator is a light straw-blonde Munich Helles Style Lager with sharp doughy yeast esters that gather atop a perfectly retained head. Pronounced grain flavors of lightly kilned barley produce bready and flour-like qualities that blend pleasantly with mild hop bitterness. Aided by a wonderful effervescence, these delicate flavors fade into a crisp, clean, and refreshing finish.

    19 IBU

It's time for Good Humans to bid adieu and welcome in Short's next seasonal release, Prolonged Enjoyment. From the Short's website:

"Happy Vernal Equinox! For all you earthlings, today’s the day the northern hemisphere FINALLY tips towards the sun, bringing longer days and warmer temps to those of us who reside in the great north woods. Just like the swapping of your wardrobe, we’re giving you a spring refresh for your beer fridge in the form of a tasty and totally crushable Session India Pale Ale we call Prolonged Enjoyment.

Prolonged Enjoyment (3.5% ABV – 45 IBU) is a Session IPA brewed with Amarillo, Simcoe, and Citra hops. The beers abundant aromatics of intense grass, pine, and citrus complement the great malty backbone and balanced bitterness. At 3.5% ABV, this brew is an incredibly sessionable IPA."

This one is gonna be in the entire distro footprint.

I don't know about you guys, but this announcement has got me pretty excited. One of the first micro pilseners I had and definitely the first Imperial one. From Short's Facebook page:

Now available at the pub on tap and in bottles. Next week in bottles across the state. From Short's portfolio:

"The Curl was one of the first Imperial beers made at Short’s. This American Pilsner has an appealing clear, bright, and golden straw color. Faint esters of grain and aromas of fresh baked bread are prominent throughout the beer. The flavor results from the abundance of flake maize used in this recipe. There are also hefty doses of hops that create a pronounced dryness that seamlessly blends into a crisp, clean finish.
    7.5% ABV
    50 IBU"

I know pilseners don't exactly burn up the top charts here on BA, but the Curl is not to be missed.

Prediction: bottle, good chance of bombers. Michigan only. Hops: Citra, Mosaic (easy guess, I know), maybe Galaxy or Armarillo. I'm rooting Mosaic.

Loving Shorts format!!!! Flagship beers, yeah, yeah.....mixed 12's usually something to get psyched about, specialty releases are defined before the year begins and gives us something to look forward to bimonthly. And then there's the stuff that broadsides us - Chief Hopper and Publican Porter thus far. Now an NEIPA.... Keep it coming!!!!!!

Perhaps this will ease the pain of Superfluid withdrawal, a methodone if you will.

It better be in six pack format....
