first off if this was already posted I do apologize. but what the hell is up with short's controversiale being released so late and yet being bottled before Christmas? on their(short's) website they have it marked for a feb release but yet it didn't make it's way out until mid/ late march. and I get it... shit happens but on my bottles it was stamped 12/15/14. it tastes like bitter cardboard. it almost tastes like an extremely old huma which is sad because this is a simcoe showcase hopped brew. I also always do a hardy pour which I pour about half and have to wait for the head to settle to pour the rest. well in my sierra Nevada spiegelau glass I poured the whole thing and it settled really fast. tastes undercarbonated or flat. also detect some yeast action like some slight bubblegum hues. being a short's fan this sucks. I know brewing the same style of beers has to get frustrating but they should know by now that's where they shine. I still see dolly dagger and their stouts sitting on the shelves and will remain there until god knows. superfluid just seemed to fly away. two or three years ago I told the pub manager to tell joe he should kill the whole nicie spicie as a whole summer seasonal cuz I was still seeing it on shelves past thanksgiving. and I know that's in his top five favorite brews. out of a handful of people I talked to only one said this years controversi tasted fine. I just wanted to warn all fans of tasty brews. just because of a name it doesn't mean the company is going to hit it out of the park every year. *cough* HOPSLAM *cough*

Appreciate the incite/ heads up because I most likely would have purchased this Shorts offering. Have any other BA's @Mothergoose03 had this same experience

I recommend you email the brewery. I'm sure QC and customer service would be happy to answer your questions and take care of you.

As far as older beer sitting around at bottle shops, it unfortunately happens with almost all breweries. If you respectfully alert the store, perhaps they'll take action to get the beer out. Usually, the situation works itself out naturally and gets picked up by the distributor.

All of our beer has at least a six month shelf life. We also flash-pasteurize, which assists especially if the store doesn't have a cooler. I haven't heard any reports of cardboard-like ControversiALE, but again, send us an email and I'm sure we'll look into it. I know a fresh IPA is best, but sometimes brew schedules/release dates don't exactly work like a Swiss Watch. Most of the time, I say, we hit our mark.

I'm sorry you had this experience and hope we can resolve your concerns.

I admittedly passed on ControversiALE this year as well because it didn't show up until mid-March and was dated 12/15/14. Huge Short's fan, but three months is old for an IPA.

My fridge is full of Short's beers  so I was going to pass on this one this year. I saw it arrive at my favorite store, maybe a month ago, but I didn't buy it. It's listed in the Short's schedule as a Feb-Apr release, so it shouldn't be any older than 60 days unless Short's is way ahead of their schedule. Maybe the OP meant 2/15/14 for the date stamp on that bottle.

I can backup the OP i passed on a 6pk that was marked 12/20. I did buy a single of it and it tasted fine but it got me thinking that it might have tasted better if it came out in january not early april

Had one last night, it definitely was dated 12/15/14. A shell of its former self.
