Is anyone going to Short's Fest next month? I'm hoping to go, but I'm having a hard time finding a hotel with an available room. I guess I shouldn't have waited til the last minute. So I'm just wondering who's planning on going and if anyone in the area knows of any hotels I might want to check for an available room. Also, have any of you been to either of the previous Short's Fests? How was it? Thanks.
I'll be there, my girlfriend's family lives right in Elk Rapids. You should look into White Birch Lodge, Wandawood, and Camelot Inn. If you're willing to camp, check out Honcho Rest. Harbor Days are a blast!
Pretty sure I'll be there, been to the first couple and they've been great. Pretty relaxed and tons of great beer to be sampled. Fireworks in the evening are always a nice touch. Your best bet would be finding something in Traverse City, anywhere from a 15-30 minute drive depending what you can find. Of course getting a cab if you need one might be somewhat difficult/pricey, but it's a great event if you can make it happen.
I've been trying to find something in Traverse City but have had no luck. I'm going to keep trying though. Did they have any limited release bottle sales or anything like that at the first two Short's Fests?
Last year they had a saison w/ pear, Captain Fantasy, which was a colaboration with half acre. They also had Cornholio, a black lager (if I remember correctly) with some weird stuff in it which was a collaboration with Dogfish Head...both were pretty tasty. They were also selling sixers/cases of all their regulars and the seasonals that were out at the time (Bludgeon yer eye black ipa which is damn tasty, key lime pie I think, and maybe another) all for a better price than you could buy anywhere else. I think they were also selling bombers of their barrel aged sustenance as well...so yes, I would think there should be some things worthwhile to pick up if you make the trip.
I'll be there. If you can't find a place to stay, let me know. I'm not sure who I'll have at my house, but I may have a spare bedroom if you need it.
