Saw Autumn Ale and their Pale Ale at Hazel's, hadn't heard they were expanding past Michigan... Was anyone expecting them/ know if Colorado will get more of their beers soon?
As far as I know, it's a one time distribution to Denver for GABF week. Select stores have them, not sure how long they'll be around. Last year some sat for months
Here's a related question - did anyone actually see the Cigar City 6-packs we were supposed to get GABF week? I know places like the Falling Rock and Freshcraft got their special kegs, but were were supposed to get Jai Alai and Maduro in bottles that week. I never saw either. Did anyone?
Picked up a 6-pack of Autumn Ale that somehow wound up with a bottle of their pale ale and Huma Lupa Licious, whoopsies. The Autumn Ale kinda sucked, but I hear their ipa is really good, will try that in a couple days when this cold is 100% gone. The smell and first few sips of the Autumn Ale reminded me of an adjunct lager, thought it got skunked and was gonna drain pour it, but the 3rd or 4th sip tasted a lot better, still not very great though. Pretty disappointed after hearing a lot of great things about Shorts a few months ago when I was in MI, but not getting to try them, it's only 1 of their beers though.
Last year we also got Nicie Spicie and Bludgeon Yer Eye, too. Of the normal Short's beers, those were my favorites. If they keep sending stuff to us for GABF, hopefully we'll get those again...along with some of their specialties, too!
We also got Bellaire Brown last year. I only tried their Pandemonium Pale Pale but thought it tasted like liquid metal and drain poured the whole six pack. I have been scared to give them another try, though have been talked into giving another chance if I ever find them in the singles section. Definitely not risking another sixer from these guys.
I didn't buy any Shorts this time but I tried them all last year. I do remember the Pale Ale having that metal taste. I thought the Bellaire Brown was the best...and it was just average.
We got stuck with a lot of Shorts leftover last year... so we didn't get near as much this year. The thing is, everybody hears Shorts is coming and thinks they're gonna be able to buy Key Lime Pie and Carrot Cake... but of course, all we get is their "normal" beers... which, as has been seen, aren't really all that great.
