I know the last time it was bottled was in 07. How does this one hold up? The packaging says to keep refrigerated. Currently it's tasting great so I'd hate to cellar it and end up pouring it in a couple years....

What would you be hoping for with age?

Personally I do not see it improving. A number of Short's experimental beers tend to fall off fast than most, with such a limited upside I would drink them now.

I'd just be hoping that they don't fall off so I can drink them throughout the next year (hopefully they bottle it again). I was lucky enough to round up a nice stash so if I can't cellar them I'll probably trade more of them now. If they'd hold up I'd save more to drink later...

Tasted yesterday at one of our Labor Day Weekend Tastings (there were a few!) This beer is very nice and pleasant with light peach tones. However, my opinion is that fresher is better on this one. I can't imagine this aging at all. A nice drink without much complexity but aging would "age out" the little fresh fruit character one now gets. JMO

Over the weekend I drank half my six pack of this one. I was wondering if this would age well too. Looking at the reviews, anyone who recently (2010, 2011) cracked open a 2007 had nothing but good things to say about it. Granted it was a 22 oz bottle and not a 12oz. I haven't had much luck either with Short's beer that has any lactose in it. Still, I will experiment and lay a couple down.

I would HIGHLY recommend not aging this at all. Bad idea with all of their experimental releases. They're beautiful fresh, but don't hold well over time.

As a rule, if something is tasting great now...drink it now. Why risk it?

How many aged bottles have you had since they started pasteurizing?

i've never had this one, but i've had a ton of others that turned into a disaster with age (whether done intentionally or not).

For what it's worth, I did a little comparison between 2011 and 2012 Strawberry Short's Cake. The 2011 was obviously not pasteurized, so it was VERY foamy, but it held up very well. The strawberry had faded quite a bit, and the base beer came out more. I thought it was starting to turn slightly sour as well, but maybe it was just my taste buds messing with me. I definitely liked the fresh one better, but since aged Short's Cake is better than no Short's Cake, I do not regret buying enough to drink year-round.

What I am really trying to figure out is how well Short's Anniversary Ale ages. I may have to make my own thread.

IMO, Shorts beers need to be consumed fresh. I have yet to have a good beer from them and I've tried about 10. Some were technically fresh, but it appears they don't even survive a short trip in a box.

Are you sure it's not just that Short's isn't for you? They all have a very distinct and similar flavor.

You are correct when you say Short's beers are not for me. They may be good fresh, but once out of the confines of refrigeration, they funk up (not in a good way) in no time. There are plenty of beers in this world for me to be happy to eliminate Shorts from my list.

Had some of it, it is delicious, great peach flavor. The abv could be dialed down a little.

What's your basis for this statement? Have you had beers near the brewery / on draft?

Looks like you've had bad luck years ago as their stuff is exceptional as of the past years. If you'd like some fresh bottles sent to you to show you what youre missing, let me know.

They've only been flash pasty rising for a year, and I don't hold on to their bottles that long (except the 750ml Imperial series).
