Prolonged needs to be year round. Or at least a mid-summer release as that is the perfect hot weather Session IPA I have ever had.

How long do these stay on shelves. I go up to TC about once a month because I belong to a golf club up there and I always stop somewhere (usually New Buffalo) on the way up or back to stock up on Short's, but I'm never sure if I'm going to hit the stores at the right time. Next trip is the last weekend in July.

Or a seasonal which gets made throughout the season. I agree this would be a good one to make more than once a year.

See the Key Lime I had must have been bad because it just tastes weird to me, there was this really off taste and smell.

Same with the Uber Goober I got it was not good at all.

Ill be getting a six of Key Lime whenever its released and would consider the drive up for the others as Id love to try them as they should be.

See Ive heard that a lot, I don't find it that sweet.

You'd be surprised how long some specialties will stay on the shelf....popular ones too. I get people asking me all the time where to find this and that...well, independent party stores that have a large selection of craft beer are your best bet. Also, checking out places that are "off the beaten path" can be very rewarding at times. Generally, all specialties get released to independent places. You just gotta get out there and search it out.

That being said, some of these can sit on a shelf so long they go bad (especially if they're on a the warm shelf), so make sure you check the code date, located on the bottom of the bottle (sometimes you have to turn it upside down and into the light to get a good look). As of this past May, we started putting the code dates on the neck of the bottle; it's much easier to locate.... So if you don't see it in one location, it's probably at the other. Grocery stores should never be an issue with old product, it's the independent accounts that move through it slower.

Key Lime Pie should be drank as fresh as possible. I'm not sure when you tasted it, but we released it in bottle last August. I'd say it had a solid 3-4 month window of freshness, tops. I actually tasted one from last year this past May and it wasn't pleasant at all.

We haven't bottled Uber in a long time. If this is something you drank recently then it was certainly from a long time ago and had probably expired. We did encounter an infection issue with our stouts in '09, so if it was one of those, I apologize. It was a learning experience for us and we have not had any issues like that in a long time. Still, many of the bottles were good so depending on when you had it, it could have simply been outside it's freshness window.

For those looking for specific bottles or growlers, I live (somewhat) close to the Bellaire pub, and I'm always happy to help out a BA looking for a specific beer. Just send me a message and we can work out what you want.

Definitely getting a case of this when it's out. I'd buy more strawberry shorts cake if I had more room in the fridge.

I think the first time I had Uber it was spoiled or something because I tend to like all of Short's beers, and not usually thrown off by off-tastes or "unique" flavors. Reading this I realize I probably had a bad bottle..oops. Can't wait to get Key Lime fresh, had it on tap last year and it was great.

Going to the brew pub for the first time tomorrow. Any pub-only pours I should make sure to try? Looking at the current tap list (http://www.shortsbrewing.com/beer/on-tap/) I'm thinking about the Rye IPA, the '09 golden rule, and maybe the Short Cake or ContraversiALE. (I know I can get the Short Cake in the store, just thought it would be better on tap).

If anyone in Chicago needs a 6 pack of Shorts Cake, BM me for a quick trade/sale?
Great brew, just grabbed way to much today to handle.

you can do a 5 spot sampler, which would be my suggestion. Were it me, this is what I'd get:

    1) ContriversAle- I love this beer.
    2) MBG 15th Ann. IPA- I'll try any IPA Short's makes.
    3) In The Wheat Of Passion- Tried this a week ago and LOVED it. May need to stop tomorrow and grab a growler since I'll be driving by.
    4) Rye Not- I like most rye beers, so I'd be happy to give this a shot.
    5) Strawberry Short'scake- It's awesome this year. I'd get it in the sampler, and then grab 6 or 12 bottles to go.

Not on tap, but if they had the Bourbon Barrel Sustenance, I hope you grabbed one (or six, or 12). Had it when i was up there in June and it was fantastic.

Check the Busch's grocery stores (there are two in AA). I don't know their inventory personally, but the one in Farmington Hills had a bunch as of a couple of days ago.
