I'll be up in N. MI next week and plan to stop by Short's (hopefully multiple times).

In reviewing the online tap list (http://www.shortsbrewing.com/beer/on-tap/) I noticed a few that haven't been reviewed here, and didn't even have descriptions on their website. Does anyone have any info on the following:
    The Duke
    MmmKay
    Whiskey Happy Jack
    Goodnight Bodacious

Anything that's a "can't miss" on the current tap list? The only one I've had so far has been Huma.

    Thanks!

I would try the Local's Light. They only serve it at the brew pub and I think it is pretty tasty for a session ale. At only like 3%, you don't even need to add it to your beer count for the night.

The Duke is a ESB and it was good but kinda bland.
MmmKay is a highly hopped lager made from the second runnings of the Aww Jeah and I loved it.
Whiskey Happy Jack cant remember what the description was but it was super tasty.
Goodnight Bodacious was Kinda like a Chocolate Barley Wine and I loved that one too.

I would say you cant go wrong with a single beer on that list they are fantastic. My wife loved the My Bock.

We will be over there on Saturday to eat some Pizza (They have great pizza) and drink some brew. They also have a great selection of bottles there but they are a bit pricey.

To me the Anniversary Ale is a can't miss. Might not be a GREAT beer, but it's super interesting, and I'd say a good beer. And it doesn't stick around all year, so give it a shot. Have fun man, they have some really good food as well and an interesting menu layout/theme.

I really enjoyed MmmKay and Whiskey Happy Jack at the Anniversary Party.

MmmKay is as described by GoldenChild above. I found it very crisp with a lot of hop flavor. I wish I had brought a growler home with me.

Whiskey Happy Jack is a barrel aged scotch ale. They do not specify that it was bourbon, but they didn't call out Scotch Whiskey either. I liked it a lot. Very malty, with some good boozy warmth. It was probably my second favorite beer at the party after Bourbon Stellar.

At the Anniversary Party they were serving Anniversary Ale out of a cask. I thought it was nice and the blood orange taste came through well. Since then I've had it out of a bottle and I didn't enjoy it as much. It was lacking the fresh citrus flavor and tasted more bitter or "pithy". It think the fact that the serving temp was much colder out of a bottle may have had an impact. So if you try it you might let it warm up a little.

Definitely get a flight or two and see what you enjoy. Short's is one of the few breweries that consistently does a ton of crazy stuff so a lot of times it's a love or hate relationship.

The atmosphere and the food are great up there. At least take home a sixer of the BB Sustenance, its a great Barrel aged Black beer.

I definitely agree with that -- on cask, the sweet blood orange was more prominent, and the pith was present but more subdued. Out of the normal keg (and bottle), though, the pith flavor was a bit too strong for my taste. I still like it, but it's better on cask

Just an fyi, you can get local light outside the brewpub. I have had it at bars in the metro Detroit area.

Thanks for all the input. I'll definitely try a wide range of their selection. With 20 of their own on tap, I just wanted to be sure I didn't miss anything exceptional.

Whiskey Happy Jack was incredible at the Anniversary Party. Tastes like butterscotch candies. Definatly a can't miss.

I just had a Freedom of 78 yesterday, and totally loved it. I am targeting a Shorts visit next time I'm in the state!

To the OP - Shorts brewpub is my favorite of any I've visited in the US by far. Enjoy the sick taplist and friendly vibe there.

This is a quote that Short's just put up on there page.

"We’ve also been keeping an eye on the spruce trees to monitor their progress for the 2012 batch of India Spruce Pilsner (estimated early July, depending on mother nature)."

if goodnight bodacious is the black barleywine they had on recently, I'd put a vote in for drinking lots of that. really good beer, hoppy and rich. the whiskey happy jack was off, i've heard lots of praise for it, so maybe get a taster glass, but i'd say the black bwine, the anny ale, and the mmm kay are the stars on the list.

I could just sit there and drink Mmmkay alllllll day long. Amazing beer.

Pretty much everything else listed above were the stars of the anniversary party - but for me Mmmkay was far and away the best beer of the day.
