Goodnight bodacious was really really good - nice hop profile on a black barleywine. not a ton of dark malt astringency, which is hard to accomplish in a beer like this.

I only made it to Short's one night- last Monday. We were up there for a family thing. I was hoping to go at least one more time, but I just couldn't get away.

I started with the Anniversary Ale. It started out a little bitter/pithy and but then really smoothed out about half way through the 14 oz pour (one reason why I rarely do tasters, I find I really appreciate a beer more when I've had more than a few ounces). I've noticed a few brewers try the blood orange thing, and this was my first chance to give it a try. I was pleasantly surprised by how well the orange married with the citrus notes from the wheat.

Then I went with the Goodnight Bodacious. It turned out to be a great sipping beer. Full of malt and hops with a little booziness.

I finished with the Village Reserve. I thought something hoppy would be good to close with, but think I would have been better with another Bodacious, or maybe Sustenance.

My wife started with Soft Parade, had a taste of the Chocolate Wheat (didn't care for it), and ended up really enjoying the Magician.

I also picked up bottles of Pandemonium, ControversiAle and the Curl. Pandemonium was decent, but not memorable, but I really loved the ControversiAle. The Curl was a great take on an imperial pilsner.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions and recommendations. I wished I could have spent more time at the brewpub, but I'm sure it will still be going strong the next time I'm up that way.

I remember really liking Magician the first time I visited the pub, but I haven't been a big fan elsewhere.

Perhaps relevant, though: it was maybe the 12th beer I had that night (including samplers in flights)

Although I don't consider myself a beer snob, I thought the Magician was pretty bleh out of the bottle, but just pouring it into a glass made it a lot better. I'd love to go try it on tap, but I don't know when I'll get that opportunity.

All beer snobs know to pour a beer from the bottle to the glass

Well I need to hang with a better crowd. Last guy I had a drink with told me that he couldn't tolerate anything but Budweiser.

That being said, I usually do pour everything into a bottle when I am at home, but at the time I first tried Magician I was in the process of moving. Did a bunch of yard work and painting, ended the night with some suds, but I didn't have my glassware unpacked. Just drank it out of the bottle and it didn't impress.
