I'm in the packaged on date camp.
I routinely purchase beers from the discount rack that are not IPA's and are out dated, but dirt cheap.
They're mainly for swigging while doing chores, so I'm not expecting much.
I haven't had a bad one yet, although some were definitely not fresh. Some floaters from settling and muted hop aroma, but for a buck or two, I am not expecting it to be brewery fresh.
I do like the born on dates that I believe Sam Adams used to use. Not sure if they still do or not, as the last bunch of Sam I've had was on draft. The Summer Ale has been on tap at my local wing joint. Not my favorite beer, but better than anything else on tap, for my taste anyway.

Oops wrong thread. And then I remembered that this beer and the other 23 of them have no date stamp. Neither does the box they came in. I don't have a bar code scanner. Hmmmm

Babies? But what about my needs as a beer drinker? The injustice.

Actually, it's only a matter of time before brewers regress beyond the candy and cereal beer stage and go into baby formula nostalgia. Milk stouts will be defined as having added formula and will require product dating. The only issue is label approval.

Until there is a law that force brewers to put at least the production date, I will buy IPA that has that date
It kills me when I drink an IPA that tastes nothing!
