Would you call Mike's Hard Lemonade a beer? Didn't think so - that's probably why it doesn't have a page of it's own on this beloved website of ours.

So why is this here? http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/29/104856/ (Too lazy to click the link? It takes you to the reviews/ratings page for Bud Light Lime Cran-Brrr-Rita)

Just so we can knock it, because it's produced by AB? Because it has the name of a beer (Bud Light) on the package? Smirnoff is the name of a vodka - is a 12oz bottle of Smirnoff ice technically vodka?

I just think this is inappropriate. We're here to discuss beer - one reviewer of Cran-Brrr-Rita even went so far as to note that he detected 'no beer taste'. No kidding - it's not beer, and no one is trying to convince us otherwise.

I would argue that the presence of this page on beeradvocate.com is a self-inflicted slap to the face. It makes us look silly, both for regarding the product as 'beer', as well as for it's obvious purpose being nothing more than to provide yet another outlet for our collective disdain for AB. I hereby move for the removal of the page. Anyone with me on this?

Not that I disagree with you in principle, but I'm guessing it has something to do with ingredients/means of production?

I don't - and this has literally nothing to do with whether or not I drink it or want to drink it. I find it borderline offensive that someone listed it as 'beer'. That's what this is about.

Yeah, it's an alcoholic malted beverage - are all alcoholic malted beverages 'beer'?

To my knowledge (limited) they actually contain Bud Light, which would make it a flavored "beer" tecnically. Based on what it is and how it is marketed, I see your point. I would put it in the same catagory as Mike's and every other wine cooler. I too would not expect to see it here. On a side note, I think it is a slap in the face to a good margarita as much as beer.

I acknowledge that I might be wrong - but I am 99.9% certain that these do not contain even trace amounts of bud light lime. BLL was a successful brand, so that label went on these 'summertime beverages' to help market them, that's as far as that goes.

I think it is safe to say we are all here because we care about beer...

I believe this is correct as well. "Bud Light Lime" is now a brand, but doesnt mean that the product actually contains any of said beer.

And while I dont think it should be listed as a beer, I'll admit that I actually like them. On a 100+ degree day, while working in the yard, they're quite refreshing over ice.

I believe that if BA is to continue with posting beverages like Cran-brr-rita on this website, than we should be able to have mead, cider and the like on this website as well. They seem to vehemently oppose mead and cider, yet allow such a product?!

Cinnamon Roll'd WnB says "malt beverage" on the label. Calling certain malt beverages "not beer" because people on here generally don't like them is not what this site is about.

99% of Americans would say that the majority of the top 250 are "not beer" and have "no beer taste", and if you managed to convince them otherwise they'd say they are the worst beers they ever tasted. You think the millions of Americans who love Bud Light think "horse blanket" and "cat piss" are proper flavors in beer?

Again, just cuz most users here think a beer is crap doesn't mean its not a beer.

Strong possibility that I am wrong. Can't even remember where that info crawled into my brain from. Don't think any of us could tell by drinking one, never tell the difference between Bud Light and the water base they use.

I agree with you in principle. However, I think you are getting a little worked up over something that isn't really a big deal. I mean if someone rated Root Beer as a beer on here, would you really be "offended"?

I think the only people that will be looking up those types of beverages on this site will be many beer snobs, like us, looking for a laugh.

And to that point, if someone is actually looking for a review of that as a beer, maybe they need our help more then they know. Let's bring people into the light, not just shun them away.

I don't dislike the product! That's not what this is about! Ever heard of Uber-Monster? It's a non-alcoholic energy drink made by the people at Monster Energy. It's a malt beverage - does that make it beer?

I don't disagree with any of that - but can we find a way to be fair about it? As far as flavored malt beverages (FMBs as opposed to Beer) go, they're considered some of the best tasting - yet they've got some of the lowest scores imaginable because everyone is rating them as 'beer'.

I agree with the principle but I think it opens a can of worms. If we remove this... Then what about stiegl radler? That is beer flavored with soda...not a whole lot different than the premise behind cran brr rita. And then what about the apple ales that are backsweetened with cider? I know there are a few of those on the market that most would consider beer. I think it's definitely a grey area, but if a beverage starts as beer and then has an adjunct added for flavoring, I think it's still beer. Whether that adjunct is cacao nibs, vanilla beans, or artificial cranberry flavor additives... It's still and adjunct and isn't the base of the beverage.
