So I stopped at one of my favorite shops at lunch. Owner is a real nice guy, and we started chatting about his new stuff, some upcoming releases, etc. At some point he mentioned that he has "super fresh" Flower Power, just came in yesterday. Well, that's one of my favorites so of course I grab a few (also some Maharaja on tap, and some Avery IPA since I've never had it and it was on sale). So I get back to the office, and I realize that half is the good fresh stuff, and the other half must have been leftover because it expires next month (waaaay past prime for this beer). It's my fault since I should have checked first. I'm sure he would exchange it if I went back, but it's totally out of my way now. Just venting a bit - sucks to be psyched for some good beer, and then be let down (at least it's only a few bucks). Ever happen to anyone else? Live and learn!

It constantly happens. The distributors are asses here. They will hold on to stuff for years, literally, then sell it to the local businesses as if it were fresh product. I can get almost as many cases of Matilda 2010 as I want (not that I would want any anyways)

I don't think it's your fault at all. He told you it was super fresh. I think you've every right to go back in there and ask to exchange the older beers with fresher beers (if you wanted to do that of course).

So you have to drink that Flower Power right away. What's the problem again?

Yeah, he should have made it more clear, and I'm sure he would happily exchange it, but I honestly don't feel like going back now. Like I said, just venting a bit. I guess I'll do a flower power verticle: January -12 vs May-12 :astonished:.

On the other hand, if someone is purposely selling off old stock to unsuspecting clients, they are asses.

Flower Power is just such a different animal when fresh. But it's true that old flower power is better than no flower power!

I've seen this here too in Arizona. Some of my Safeway stores started new, expanded sections of craft beer and half of them were sixpacks expired months ago. All new to the store too. Distributor might have just figured they're idiots at the grocery store vs. specialty liquor, or whatever.

Happened to me the other week. Picked up a couple single Dales Pale Ales and at home saw they were a few months old. Ended up drinking them and discovered I might actually enjoy that already great beer with a couple months on it. Not that I'd recommend that to most here, but it worked out quite well for me.
