Just recently, I had the original Bigfoot barley wine for the first time. Felt that it was good, but overbearing, and decided this beer would probably benefit from aging. Shortly after, I acquired the BA Bigfoot. Of course, I'm excited to try it, but if it's anything like the original, I'm thinking I may want to give it 2 or so years and allow it to develop and become more palatable... So anyways, what do you guys think about this issue? I'm sure a lot of you have had this fresh. Thank you!

If the original version is overbearing to you, definitely wait on the BA version.

They barrel age it and release it to their likings, you either drink what they like, or cellar it to how you may like it. Cheers

I just had a fresh one, quite boozy and I love fresh barrel aged beers, I typically dont hold on to my barrel aged beer, my point is, I consider my palate good for barrel aged beers and that being said, this thing needs some time in the bottle, barley wines seem not to tame bourbon in the same way stouts do, I have one more bottle of BA Bigfoot, and yeah she's gonna spend some time on the shelf.

Barrel aged version is a whiskey bomb. I'm waiting on mine 3 years minimum. Bigfoot actually becomes a bigger beer after significant aging which should balance well with the barrel I'm assuming.

I never had the luxury or opportunity to buy this brew, but I would definitely let this baby age a few years. I've had the original big foot and it's quite delicious. However, I believe time will only make this beer shine. Age this bad boy for a little and then have it. If you have more than 1, I'd drink one now and age the other(s).

It's amazing now but I wish I'd saved my second bottle for aging :slight_frown: Amazing beer but yes it is hot. However the hops aren't going to be an issue imo if you felt they were a bit harsh in the fresh bigfoot (which honestly fresh bigfoot can be pretty unappealing to me).

Did you purchase the BA Bigfoot recently? If so, would you be kind and tell me where?

Oh man, no, not real recent. And it was at a Bevmo in Seattle. How did y'all feel about the Sucaba? I had it once, loved it and currently have 2 bombers in the process of development. I also managed to grab a 2012 World Wide Stout, as well as a 2011 Older Viscosity today! Side note, if y'all got any barrel aged stouts, or barley wines you want to trade, let me know and send me a list of what you're willing to part with! I have all kinds of stuff.. Coney Island barrel aged Human Blockhead, Sucaba, Labyrinth Black Ale, maybe some Fremont Bourbon Abominable, etc..

I opened mine a couple weeks ago and really enjoyed it. Moreover, my wife, who generally isn't a fan of the really big beers, said she kind of loved it.

I said, "too bad, cause I doubt I'll ever be able to get it again."

It's definitely a little hot, but it really comes together beautifully. But then again, I like my bourbon neat, so keep that in mind.

I'm holding onto my BA Bigfoot bottles - it was a little hot and too hoppy for my liking when fresh.

Had one a few weeks ago, it was awesome. I actually thought it was incredibly smooth. My palate tends to love fresh bourbon barrel aged beers though.
