I always correct employees. Had a guy at spec's arborwalk bragging he had 1 and 2 year old maharajah in the back if I was interested. I had to explain with beers like that people normally want to try them as fresh as possible. He went on to explain how he prefered one and two yr old maha over fresh. WTF! I stopped discussing with him when I realized there was no helpin that person.
I have asked in other stores around who had no clue a new beer was released. 2010 abyss came out in austin I told one store about it, they said we were unaware and they ordered a few cases. They took my info calledme when it came in and offered me as much of it as I wanted to buy for letting them know. Wasnt expecting that. I bought a case and ended up distroing most of it to people that came in from out of town and didnt get any.

That would be like me saying an ipa was great because it wasnt too hoppy lol

speaking of which, i had a 2012 syssyphus and it was almost no hoppy at all, i was a bit taken aback. Although it was in my fridge for a pretty long time.

Id say correct them politely, if they cant take it, its on them. They should know if a beer is coming to the state in the very least, and if not, just say I DONT KNOW.

Sysiphus shouldnt be too hoppy... it's a barleywine, not an IPA.

you possibly got a bad bottle, I had a 10-12 recently and all had some great points. I was kind of taken back how they hadnt "mellowed" out at all. None of the flavors blended together like other aged beers had.

I mentioned in another post that the odd years tend to be more hop forward, and the even years are more fruity. Still my favorite beer though.

From a beer employee: Yes. Correct me so I can make the store I work at better (and/or better educate future customers).

Fresh Sysiphus is pretty damn hoppy...fresh Bigfoot is hoppier than most DIPA's I have had.

I would have to correct him cause he might be going by misleading info that is keeping him from trying to buy/get it. I am in DFW have a case and still now other locations in the area that have a few more left... Its here you just have to take the time to call or stop in and locate it.

SN enters Bigfoot as a DIPA, and if I remember correctly it won Gold at a recent national event in that category.

Even if Deschutes did decide to blacklist a city, Spec's can still transfer the beer there. That doesn't make any sense.

I correct them, because I'd expect them to correct me when I'm wrong.

I'm not sure thats always so easy, especially if its across county lines. Living just outside of Austin (Travis Co.) but in Williamson County, I know there are some beers that the Travis Co. stores get that, for various reasons I dont understand, can't come across the county line. I've had distributors tell me the same thing, but again, I dont fully understand the legality of it all.

Specs, or any liquor store for that matter, can only transfer alcohol to another store within the same county.

I would want someone to correct me. That way, I don't continue to sound like an idiot to people who know what is true.

If someone else was corrected, they would have the correct information to give me when I ask.

Which just shows how useless the two categorize can be. If we are going to get into this discussion, Saint Arnold Octoberfest won a medal as a Scottish Ale...

My thoughts exactly, which is why I checked De Zavala. As for the legality, Spec's claims to have a special permit that allows them to transfer beer across county lines. On the flipside, some distributors insist that no such permit exists. I don't know enough about the laws to say one way or another. But legally or no, Spec's does, in fact, transfer beer from their Houston warehouse to other stores in other counties.
