The Beer Temple in Chicago. Great selection, daily tastings, helpful and knowledgeable staff, emphasis on fresh beer. Definitely my favorite place to buy beer.

Do you notice that the guy who works there constantly whistles to bad music on his radio, good shop rough music.

Wegmans in Princeton, NJ. Good selection. Reasonable prices. Plus, it situates beer in the context of food, which I find helpful. Some good cheese, some good bread, and some good beer = happy me.

    3. Cooper's Corner in Florence (Northampton) MA
    4. Liquor Cabinet in East Granby, CT
    5. Marty's Big Buys in Allston, MA

@Geuzedad has it right locally IMO, GCM is the spot at least in Gilbert. If I don't care about a little bit of a drive though Beer World in Mesa is great, especially for the guy Dave who owns the joint. Gonna be hitting up Bine and Vine in San Diego in a few weeks to see what's up there.

In some sates, including my own, beer and hard liquor can't be sold in the same store, hence the "bottle shop" term.

Bear World, Watertown NY. Close, good selection and reasonable prices. Always at least 6 choices on tap (usually a few more) for growler fills and there's the growler club, buy 9 get one free. How cool is that - FREE BEER! A great way to sample a wide variety of brews I never would have otherwise.

Bottle doesn't specify beer, wine, liquor, water, etc. I'm not crazy about the term, it's just beer. Shrug

Yup, here in New York wine and liquor are sold in one store, beer in a separate one. Grocery and quick markets carry beer, hard cider and malt beverages (hard teas, lemonades, etc.) but no wine or liquor. It goes back to pre-prohibition days believe it or not. Now there are some shops that have skirted it some by having separate entry doors and loading areas and a hard wall or structure separating the two markets. It gets really weird when brewpubs, wineries, distilleries and the like get mixed in. Can they serve wine, mixed drinks and liquor in the same area where they make their products and also serve food?? Really funky stuff. I have lived in four different states and visited or passed through at least 2 dozen others and I'll tell you, don't assume anything, there will be something different and/or unique about every one of them. Heck it can even differ from one county to another.
