    This is a Japanese yunomi (tea cup). There are different styles however, this "mug" style is generally used for drinking lower grades of green tea (lower grades of sencha and "bancha" teas including genmaicha and hojicha). The lower grades of green tea are usually consumed with meals. Higher grades are enjoyed in a smaller yunomi on their own or with a small sweet. This design has the same ridges and probably inspired the Hitachino Nest "wavy" glass.

    It's a big want of mine due to my interest in and knowledge of the Japanese culture.

    Nope, it was the first place I checked. Must be sold out. etregourmet doesn't have it listed either.

    EDIT: However, I've emailed Kurt before and discovered that an item not listed on the website is still in stock.
