I don't feel like it's looking for a reason to hate to want a little easier access to stuff now that they make a ton. I waited in tons of lines at Perennial. It was limited, and that was totally understandable. Everybody got a couple of bottles but nobody walked away with absurd amounts.

It shouldn't require a minimum of 60-90 minutes of time squandered waiting in lines for me to get a few bottles (for all the stuff they choose to sell out of immediately). I'm not even talking about Derivation/OWK or other super-rare stuff.

If they'd rather let one guy get 24 bottles than make sure everybody who happens to be working or have prior engagements on a Saturday/Sunday can get two bottles in five minutes on a Tuesday, that's their prerogative. But that's directly opposed to Cory's previous statements on the matter.

Cry me a river man. The state of Beer right now is line up or spend some time online gettIng beer. If you can’t invest either than drink stuff in the shelf, there is plenty available. Chicago is much, much worse. I feel for you waiting 60-90. So horrible to get world class beer weekly and having access to a plethora of world class beer you can have on-site that the rest of us have to trade for our first born. Step off your entitlement soap box for a second and thank Cory for taking care of locals.

Edit: and no I’m not in SP super secret club or work for SP, but I do appreciate enjoying SP brews when I’m in STL.

In total Side Project Brewing made 950 barrels last year which includes Shared too. They now have to maintain 2 locations as well as allocate to festivals (most if not all are donations) and other events. I understand that the increase from 304 barrels in 2016 is 312%+ but they are by no means making a ton; Perennial made 4,721 barrels and 2nd Shift made 1,920 barrels for perspective.
There is no way to satisfy everyone with any release and there will always be people to miss out and people who end up with "too many" (mules will always exist for better or worse).

Preach. A lot of the complaints in this thread seem more like folks mad that the beer landscape is changing, rather than Cory and the crew actually doing anything objectively wrong. Most releases don't sell out day of. For large volume releases, they'll often quietly release bottles days early for folks drinking at the cellar to take To-Go. They do the best they can with limited beer and reward the folks that are frequent customers who spend time drinking there, as opposed to folks that just line up for beer on release days and leave after they get their bottles.

If you just want to drink the world class beer that is sitting there, all you have to do is pick a quiet Tuesday and drink a beer. They always have numerous things worth your time and money.

    It's good.

I agree with this 100%! If you want to drink the beer, you have a chance to 99% of the time; I have been able to try everything on-site over the last ~2 years that I have wanted to. It took me a few tries for all of the Derivations and older bottles but the new ones are easily available if you can get there (O.W.K. being the only beer that hasn't lasted a long time period). I have missed out on plenty of beers and will continue as life happens but just be happy with what we have available because any day that the Cellar/Brewery is open, there is world class beer being served (Cellar even has non-SP that is also world class!). I understand that not everyone can sit around and drink on week nights and be "rewarded" for doing so but if all you are interested in is releases and taking bottles to-go then you will be disappointed time to time.

Incoming headed to STL on the 17th-29th for work. I’m just hoping to try all the good beers at the cellar. Also will be taking some Ba stouts to maybe score some IP trades as well.

That being said, you guys know when the cellar does the anniversary? Is it the same dates in November/ December most of the time? Would be a dream to drink and try the Ba stouts that they put on!

    Same dates in Nov/Dec.

For the Cellar Anniversary, Cory has brewed a new Candle beer for the past 3 years.

For the Brewery Anniversary, they did super limited bottles on site the day of. Was insane.

the brewery tasting room anniversary was one of the best on-site drinking days of my life. even without on-site bottles (which most of the big guns are gone in a flash) and you still have DBD, D5 & 4 Candles all on draft in the same day.

    That really depends.

If you are staying for more than a day, I'd probably choose Cellar, as the "celebration" is usually a week of cool stuff culminating in the candle tapping. They usually tap a previous year's candle(last year they did 2 and 3 candles). as well that day.

The Brewery celebration, you probably have a chance at trying some serious "whalezbro" bottles for onsite. Last year D1-8(minus 4) was consumed.
