Fantastic Voyage actually IS the base without anything done, correct? Or am I forgetting and it actually had additives?

 

every bottle of Prodigal (also same base stout) i opened this year had a stout goober in it. didn’t cause the beer to not pour out, but one of the pours would have the goober in it. looks like a piece of a condom floating in the stout. have also had these in aged abraxas bottles as well.

 

coconut. Prodigal is the base with a small amount of cocoa nibs and vanilla beans. (so very close to nonBA maman)

 

That's vastly different than my experience with BCBS. What I experienced was thick heavy, almost pudding-like consistency at the bottom. Didn't even know it until I got to the bottom of the bottle, and then it "glooped" out into my pour. That caused the glass to be coated, and the consistency/taste changed slightly to something that I did not enjoy. Had to drain-pour the last 2ish ounces. If I had known, I would have been more careful.

 

Thanks. I couldn't taste the coconut at all, so not surprised that I forgot.

 

@Sabtos when did you have B1 BBT? I agree that my first experience with it wasn’t great as it was too hot and unbalanced. It’s drinking damn good right now though.

BBT B2 is noticeably better though in mouthfeel and it’s much more we’ll rounded.

I’ve been fortunate to have 17 Maman, 2018 Maman, BBT B1 and BBT B2 all fresh. I would rank them as follows fresh:

Maman 17>BBT B2>Maman 18>BBT B1

I’ve had all 4 within the last month also and if ranking how they are drinking currently it would be:

Maman 17>BBT B2>BBT B1> Maman 18

i might have stolen that term from @WhaleSlayer85 ...

and i remeber now that an Answer stout crowler that a buddy opened last year around this time also had a huge stout goober in it. biggest one i’ve seen.

How available is Maman and BBT for on-site consumption, or is it all gone?

No way I can afford a trade for either or both, but I'd love to give a glass a go.

 

Maman was gone in 4 minutes last Friday

 

BBT appears to have been taken off the menu for on-site consumption but i wouldn’t be surprised if it pops back up in the next couple months. just have to keep your eyes peeled.

 

I did what I should have and looked at both brewery's websites. Looks like all the above is gone, but Anabis and BA Coffee Shop Vibes are still available at Side Project Cellar. Any evidence they won't last this weekend?

 

You must not see me post very often then, to be so affected by my not gushing over a beer you really like (read: a beer you really want to trade at its peak power). Most of my posts tend to be negative or critical--big picture, I find it to be more valuable.

Some of my highest rated beers are from STL, my original post has nothing to do with that beer scene although I do find the level of over-hype out of there to be insufferable.

But to each their own (did that work?).

 

You're right, I'm not on this site enough to see every one of your posts, but for someone who regularly rips Side Project (and the head brewmaster/owner), you're sure on the SP forum an awful lot commenting..

 

i think you’re safe on Anabasis. hard telling with BACSV. it just popped up on tuesday but with no big releases this weekend and everyone going balls to the walls last weekend it could be a very chill week / weekend at SP and might last.

 

Chill sounds ideal. I sent a message to a St. Louis friend to see if I can couch crash. I'll update here if I'll be in town in case anyone wants to split a bottle, or if you all will make me drink two 750s

Probably just hit Narrow Gauge for to-go then spend the latter half of the day at SP until it's time to sleep. Then drive back in the AM.

 

I didn't have BBT B1, but I'd say B2 was an incredible mouthfeel and was very far from being super bourbon-y.

 

I'll be there sometime in the 3 PM range tomorrow. I plan to stay for a while. I'm open to sharing any bottles or even bringing over some KC stuff, if you want it. I'd really like to try BA Coffee Shop Vibes and Anabasis B3 first, and then Derivation 10 if I'm up to it.

I'll be there with someone else, but I would love to meet some other Beer Advocates. Send me a PM if you'd like to meet up.
